I was delighted that Pedro did not start! I think we agree that had Hughes been given more time we may have got out of this but with the fixtures we have it makes it close to impossible.
I wish the board had put half as much effort into trying to keep us up as you trying to convince us that we're not ****ed.
Well thats really ****ed up my weekend. I didn't expect to get anything out of the game, but to be so close and then to loose in that fashion is gutting. I thought we played well for most of the game, but the ref was shocking. Can Alonso be charged retrospectively for that tackle, er I mean attack?
I got back half an hour ago but thought I’d catch up with the thread before posting. That first hour was very good, but as someone behind me said at the end of the game, Giroud coming on was just like a switch being flicked, Chelsea just shifted gear and showed how good they are, and we showed how bad we can be. I don’t blame any of the players, they all played their hearts out today, and props to JWP and Bednarek for that stunning second goal. Neither do I blame Hughes, it’s not his fault he hasn’t got any top class CB’s or a 20-goal striker. We all know whose fault it is if we go down, it’s all been said countless times already. I had a great hour of football today, that’s what I’m clinging on to anyway.
We had applause down our end at Chapel. We can still do this with 15 points to play for, yes other teams need to fail as well but until the time the maths say so we are not relegated yet, Stay with it, at least we saw real effort today and two good goals from us. On the way home many fans I spoke with have what I call the Saints optimistic mood, the facts lead on to think negatively, the emotion says not yet!!
Worst thing is, my girlfriend is really starting to doubt that my wearing her underwear brings Saints luck.
If we are then let’s go out with a bang. It’s not just this season that has led us to this, this has been on the cards for a while. But let’s have a dose of realism it’s only football and not life divining. Seen relegation before, probably see it again. Seen great promotions, hopefully see some again. It’s life,we are a mid table to bottom half club punching way above our weight for years so let’s not worry too much. Again thank you Sparky for at least giving the players some fight.
On a side note, how was Bednarek? I saw the goal he scored and he finished it well. But overall does he give us hope for next season if we go down?
I can empathize with your sentiments Garysfc, but it would have been simpler to get to 40 points which now looks unachievable. That is 4 wins and given our history at Everton and Leicester it is not on. Our one victory to come will be against ...... Manchester City.
