I've picked The Worlds End in the comp but with the ground (apparently) drying out I think Thomas Campbell will run a big race here

BetFred paying the traditional first four places in a handicap over 16 runners and going 10/1 the field.
Bet365 allowing a market where punters can opt for ten places but going 13/2 the field.

General facts to be acknowledged here:

Punters are generally very stupid and do not understand the mathematics of betting.
Bookmakers totally understand the mathematics of betting and frequently have the punters trousers down.

Punter backs 13/2 shot that wins the National but had the insurance of nine places at 3/20. Actual odds: 3.325-1
Punter backs 10/1 shot that wins the National but had the insurance of three places at 3/4. Actual odds: 5.375-1

First punter traded two points for six extra places.

    Happy Birthday to Wooly.
My 2 now are Tiger Roll and Maggio after Regal Encore was withdrawn.
Hope it's a cracker and all return safe and well.

    Good Luck.

They are indeed playing the percentages. Years ago I worked with an old boy who said that the National was a nightmare because it was like paying out on four winners as the once-a-year punters religiously bet each way so a 50/1 placed cost them money rather than being a skinner.

Simple trade off – they are paying more places so you get the minimum proportions that they are allowed to offer. I often see bookies offering 1/5 odds 1-2-3-4 at some of the big meetings because if you look in the racecard, the course concerned (e.g. Sandown) has the minimum place terms stated as such when us older punters can remember 16-runner handicaps always used to be 1/4 odds 1-2-3-4.

What a ****ing crap rendition of God Save The Queen

Too slow, a ridiculous trend which was started by Spurs fans singing "Oh when the Spurs go marching in" at half speed - sounds like a 45 record played at 33.

I should have posted this on the annoyance thread .........................

You have to say Tiger Roll is one of the greats of the game after that. A Triumph Hurdle, 4-miler and Cross Country Chase at Cheltenham and now the Grand National. Great, great horse and marvelously trained by Gordon Elliot <applause>

Cheers Oddy marvellous result for me. Also had a bunch of multiples with the 2 Lacey winners and another at Chepstow all rolling onto Venetia's ol boy Renard at Chepstow for a small fortune. Broke my own golden rule and cashed out for around £2k and shaking like a ****tin dog when Renard bounded 8 clear coming round the bend. His old legs let him caught up with him on the run in and my heart rate has just about normalised. Fookin cash out is a nightmare even though I'm on the right side of it today. Apologies to all for the huge dollop of aftertiming. 3 courses for the family at the Indian this evening. :emoticon-0167-beer::emoticon-0167-beer::emoticon-0168-drink:emoticon-0168-drink
