It’s one of those ****y rivalries no one gets but their fans but they really aren’t keen on each other. I think a lot of it stems from a cup game where it kicked off decades ago.
I’m rather pissed off with this Sat night football lark. I’m gonna miss one of our biggest games of the season because I’ll be out with my lady and friends as I nearly always am on a Sat night. I’m sure that must apply to a lot of other guys too.
Also a lot of London based dealers near Palace cuckoo houses in Brighton to sell heroin and crack. The rivalry between dealers is quite hardcore. Trying think of other reasons it's a Derby...
Croydon, which is a stone’s throw down the road, is drugs central. Lot of gang rivalry and violence there.
Yeah I know. I used to score all round Croyden area. Used to know a fella right by Selhurst Park too. This was in the 90's before this cuckoo malarkey got real. Mad area for drugs and violence. Absolute ****ing dive too.
They’re trying to drag it upmarket nowadays. Load of expensive yuppy apartments being built around East Croydon station, But yeah, it’s a dire ****hole. An aesthetic abortion too.
I moved further south 5 years ago, after 20 years of living in Crystal Palace. Too many wannabe gangsters. I'm a North Londoner born and bred but have cousins who grew up around Croydon and I spent a lot of time down there in the 70's and 80's. The Palace-Brighton thing was in full flow in '77 when I went to the game at Selhurst Park with them [in the Brighton end]. The Croydon Punks used to go down to Brighton for gigs and there's an infamous night at a Sham 69 gig when the local skinheads and the Croydon lads really went at it.
