Hope we terminate his contract, it was ridiculous giving someone with his attitude a five year deal in the first place. He's given us a get out of jail free card. Ironically.

Nobody's performance on a football pitch justifies breaking someone's jaw and then leaving them unconscious in a back street. But if someone has talent and works hard at their football it's worth the club's time to help them out and try to get them on the right path. Carroll and Barton fell into this category, especially Barton who was actively addressing his behaviour, but Ranger doesn't.

Barton took about 7 years to sort out his behaviour. Ranger is what, 20?

Not that I don't think Ranger is a twat, but, in general, we've backed Barton through so ****ing much, but want Ranger out immediately. It's ****ing stupid. No-one was calling Carroll's contract to be terminated when he glassed that bloke.

You can't take the moral high ground on one player because he's average, but not another because he's good.

Ranger is **** though. He's out of the first team and it's clear that NUFC are trying to get rid, so if he breaks someone's jaw and gets arrested, why the hell would they choose to keep him, nevermind defend him?

I'd want us to keep Ranger if he was a real prospect, but it's becoming more clear that he's just pants. Considering this, plus all of his other behaviour, we're really best off getting rid.

Yes you can. Football is football. This isn't about morals. If he's worth keeping, take the rough with the smooth. If he isn't worth keeping, get rid of the twat.

And Lee Hughes and Marlon King are delighted there are chairmen and managers with that attitude.

Well, of course you can. I just don't think it's right.

I haven't seen anyone call for him to leave for being average for months. A story like this pops up and everyone thinks he's a 'twat' and we should terminate his contract for assualt, taking the moral high ground. It's ridiculously unfair to terminate a contract of a player that has committed an offence which previous players have done and have been backed for.

As a club you have to have some consistency (of course this regime is hardly known for it), otherwise it gets silly. I'm happy for Ranger to be loaned out but not based on any offences, I just think he needs game time and confidence on the pitch to be a decent enough player.

To be fair people have said that in the past, I know I personally was hoping he was going to leave, guess we'll be stuck with him now

The topic of getting rid has flared up many times. It did when there was a picture of him with that gun. His attitude, behaviour and actions were bad enough, but actually assaulting someone and then being arrested is on a whole new level.

This is an accumulation of everything. His criminal background, his lack of effort, his awful attitude, his behaviour and his 'gangster' actions which have drawn negative media attention towards the club.

Some players are in the position where they can get away with this sort of thing due to potential and previous good behaviour. Ranger is already in NUFC's bad books in both of those areas, so he can't afford criminal actions like these.

Ashley stuck by Joey and what did we get? One good season out of four, a contract rejection, a load of public negative comments about the club/owners and then a free move to QPR because Ashley was so desperate to get rid. In his eyes, none of that would have been worth the hassle whatsoever, so he will have learned his lesson and he won't deal with **** like that again.

It's not a moral issue. We're not a charity for waifs and strays, it's worth the club taking someone under their wing if they can offer the club something in return, Ranger can't in my opinion. Another key difference is the attitude of the players in question, Barton and Carroll always gave their all and worked very hard at their games; Ranger is always late to training and rarely puts the effort in, he's a waster. We made a mistake giving him such a lengthy contract, and now he's given the board a get out.

I see your point. The gun picture was completely blow out of proportion - that was a nothing incident that the media like to get up in arms (hehe) about ('think of theee childreeeeen!!!').

I'm not saying the guy hasn't got problems, but I think it's fundamentally wrong to stick by certain players because of potential, which is subjective. Of course you have to deal with cases individually, but you have to have consistencey. I think it's a different situtation to Barton, who I think was past the stage where he would always cause some sort of a problem. Ranger is still young, with, for me, potential. He needs help from someone - possibly CH at Birmingham on loan - to get himself on the right track and work on his attitude.
