I'm not understanding why you think Trump would want a weaker Europe?...we are no threat to America imho. I can understand Putin wanting a weaker Europe from a military perspective, one which i've already covered in my post that you quoted and this was related. Russia pushing out it's border is no hidden secret and one if i was a Russian i would be aiming to do too. Although in this technically advanced age, I'm not really of a military knowledge to know why land advancement towards them would be a necessary option.

You’re ignoring the economic element. A weaker and disjointed Europe helps the US in their aim of reducing their trade deficit.

The US doesn’t really need Europe from a military perspective, barring use of their bases i.e. a glorified aircraft carrier.

Russia’s military is now chronically under resourced and far weaker than it was during the Cold War, the US has enough military fire power to wipe out anyone it felt the need to - on its own.

Problem with these egomaniacs now is that neither Trump or Putin will want to lose face so this could escalate.

 

Syria is a vipers nest. So many different factions and proxy wars going on there. Personally I don’t think we should get involved on the ground there, but I would support air strikes against chemical weapons facilities (if they actually exist)
