Wenger's Response to 6mn Caill offer.

Discussion in 'Arsenal' started by velachiperoo, Aug 26, 2011.

  1. TBH I'm really surprised by all this aggro, including Bolton's own valuation of £17m or whatever.

I know too that our board tend to go in with some low bids but to have this thing blown up like that doesn't help the relationship of both clubs. I had thought we had enjoyed a good relationship with Bolton and Owen Coyle. One thing I would say is that I think we should when we bid also place reasonable offers. We get £25m for Nasri so valuing a player like Cahill at 6/8m or whatever may be on the low side. It's like buying on forum sales corners sometimes. Having run one and been on several, I am aware that members do underbid in the hope of coming away with an item at a reduced price. My approach is that if you see something you like and feel that the description and photographic evidence of the item reflects a particular and reasonable value, then that is the offer you should make. All's fair in love and war. Same goes for football. R/L as we know sadly isn't always like that.

I agree in a way but it's entirely fair to bid a bit on the low side and see what the response is. Everyone does it in football. A simple "No, increase the bid to £xm and we'll talk" would of done.

the public response may have sent Wenger away- silly, silly Bolton.

  4. Agree Mr Shoelaces that a simple response from Bolton would have sufficed and both clubs could then continue talking

and with Dutch Master that it could all have been done quite discreetly.

    Enjoy ur weekend

I still think Cahill will come - and I think Wenger's bid was probably more around the £10m mark.
In the last year of his contract he is not worth that much more.
As has been mentioned - Bolton have three days to cash in or lose him on a free next summer.

It might have been £6m down, and say £4m for this seasons xx appearances.
Gartside foolishly tried to up the ante....

yeah but at the same time we also sold Clichy for a paltry £7m, and surely he is more comparable in value to Nasri?

    Clichy worth £25m ???
I think £7m was a bit low, £10m was probably more realistic

Id say he'd be worth about £12m but due to him being in his final year it went down £5m
