New stadium thread

  1. This is starting to take on some sort of Bond-villain character <laugh>

But the idea of using ‘Colosseum’ term is not the worst and would certainly appeal to our US investors.:emoticon-0148-yes:

I think allocating visiting fans to a corner of the Tottenham Marshes would be a good idea.......after all,it was our first ground.

I'm aware of the angels but I definitely saw a picture inside the ground, with snow on the ground, of some men in gladiator outfits as well....or I took stronger medication in those days. I shall keep looking and come back on it. I'm pretty sure that it was in the 100 Year Commemorative book by John Fennelly. I will get back to you on it.

Spurs fans became "Angels" because of the bullcrap written by the sportswriters of that time in reply to the not-very-good showing of Spurs in the away tie at Gornik (of Poland.) We were 4-0 down and came back to 4-2.
The sportcasters changed their tune after the return match.....SPURS 8 GORNIK 1.

(Actually,Gornik scored the best goal by Pohl,if memory serves me!)

I have cut and pasted this from Skyscraper City, it represents a reasonable and realistic projection on future income from the new stadium....

Posted on Glory-Glory by "Finney Is Back"

I tried to work out the total corporate revenue from that (assuming all packages sell) Looking at the rough number of tickets in each price point. I came up with the following:

West Stand Super Loges: About 170 seats at average of £10k = £1.7 million
East Stand Loges: About 200 seats at average of £8.5k = £1.7 million
    Sky Lounge: 516 seats at £6k = £3.1 million
H Club: 180 seats at £15k = £2.7 million (plus a one off receipt of £2.7 million in joining fees)
Tunnel Club: 104 seats at £9.5k = £1 million (plus a one off receipt of £1.5 million in joining fees)
West Stand Tier 1 Premium Seats: 630 seats at £4.5k average: = £2.8 million
West Stand Tier 2 Premium Seats: 1,300 seats at £4.5k = £5.9 million
East Stand Tier 1 Premium Seats: 720 seats at £4.5k = £3.2 million
East Stand Tier 2 Premium Seats: 660 seats at £4.5k = £3 million
East Stand Tier 3 Premium Seats: 1,350 seats at 4.5k = £6 million
East Stand Tier 4 Sideline suites: 650 seats at £10k each = £6.5 million
West Stand Tier 2 Sideline suites: 650 seats at £10k each = £6.5 million

Total: £44 million from around 7,150 seats.

Obviously this is 850 seats short. So assuming an average price of: £5,000 for those that I have missed that is another: £4.2 million

The stadium could therefore bring in £48 million a year of corporate revenue

Now adding the non corporate revenue for league games
    + £2 million from 3,000 away seats
+ £42 million from 42,000 ST holders (paying average of £1,000)
+ £7.5 million from 8,000 match day tickets (paying average of £50)
    Total: £51.5 million

Assuming we are in the champions League next year then the minimum participation of group stage only: 50,000 tickets sold at average of £50 for min of 3 games = £7.5 million

Domestic Cup revenue: Assume only two home games, with 30,000 tickets sold at an average of £20 = £1.2 million

Assume a reasonable naming rights deal of: £10 million

    Total revenue: £114 million

That is before any money from the NFL for renting the stadium or any rent from additional events such as music concerts

    __________________

That puts us at the top of the tree without the NFL and the other non-football events that are possible with the retractable pitch. That will put us well in advance of all competitors. It's a complete game changer for the club, even without the NFL franchise but that's the key. We've not jumped at the first stadium sponsorship that's come along and we've got 5 years to re-structure our current stadium build borrowings.

I sense that ENIC are fishing for something that will make the club much more than just a landlord of NFL games Joe Lewis has long wanted an NFL franchise but been frozen out. I could see a re-structuring of the club's ownership to bring in a partner that the Americans will trust to run a franchise here, whilst we run the 'soccer' club. At this point, we're holding the trumps, in that the Americans want a UK franchise and the cost of buying the land and building a stadium don't stack up for 10 games per season.

If we can hold our nerve, we'll be truly transformed into a 'sporting club' on both sides of the Atlantic, the first of its kind.

    ENIC are not idiots.

Another key event will be the first music concert held.
The stadium build bid at the OS involved AEG (music events) ,
who AFAIK wanted a build that created good acoustics for
music events in addition to football games.

If new WHL matches or exceeds their expectations on that front,
then no doubt AEG will push new WHL as being the outdoor
venue of choice for any gigs they are promoting in London.

Our stadium completely destroys the White Elephant as a venue for anything but West Ham's new brand of 'football'. The appalling view, almost certainly awful sound, lack of appropriate lighting, the destruction of the turf and add that to it being in the middle of nowhere and the whole thing isn't conducive to a great night at a gig. Then, if you add in things like the state of their corporate facilities and compare them to what NWHL offers and there's no contest...

    NWHL elegant sophistication...

AEG also own 50% of the Los Angeles Kings Ice Hockey franchise. Whatever the future shape of THFC is, they will be part of it for certain and putting plenty of business our way.

Good shots of the East Stand entrance. Finally, it's starting to look a bit more complete

Along with 100's of other things springing into fevered action, lots of seating is going in now. All of it navy blue so far, so as to look like this recent image rather than ones with white seats bearing the cockerel emblem and THFC.....

I'm actually in favour of it this way. I prefer the look. It's classier, to my mind and when I went every week the seats were wood and looked wooden. The more garish look that came in the 80's and after still looks a bit naff, again to my eye. The letters look like the old dot matrix style number displays on clock radios and the logo is not right, so I'd prefer it wasn't there.

Also, we've built a multi-use stadium and this fits with that ethos. I can't see the NFL wanting to commit to using a stadium for a team called 'The Spitfires' or 'Monarchs' or similar that's got cockerels and THFC plastered everywhere. The same with E-sports, concerts or whatever else the stadium gets used for.

However, that's just my viewpoint. What do others think? Will anyone be truly upset by this?

The obvious irony being plenty of NFL, NBA and MLS franchises are content to play in stadiums emblazoned with the names of 'Murican corporations such as Nissan, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Red Bull, Philips, Barclays, Rio Tinto and Mapfre...

The acoustics/atmosphere of new WHL is the
    intended means of home/away supporters
knowing exactly where they are. The navy blue +
white colour is for the empty ground.

I am more annoyed that the none of the cockerels will
be positioned inside where all supporters can see them.
That is the more spiritual/symbolic link to an eternal
    WHL than logos on seats.

You can do a fair bit with 'e-hoardings' anyway.
Any other banners etc I assume can easily be installed/
removed before/after match days. For the TV viewer,
IMHO it is good to have as much club branding on view
as is possible whatever the camera viewing angles.

I know but there's no red anywhere in our buildings, apart from the ****ing huge red letters on our shirts, that AIA pay £35m a season to have there. If we paid the NFL the same, we could put what we wanted there.

On that score, I've just learned that Liverpool sell a 'Directors' Club' ticket. You get access to the Directors lounge and bar and who knows?,probably to sleep with John W Henry's Mrs. into the bargain.

The price? £250k per ticket, per season. There's a mininum purchase of 2 tickets for 3 years.

Don't anyone say that it's not all about the money. What's next? You get to manage some cup games and your kids play the last 10 minutes?

You can pay to stand right on the touchline during games and wear an official kit.
I assume that's what the blokes behind the goalline are doing during European matches, anyway.

Isn't that what John Terry does, just in case a trophy is presented?
