Anybody else apart from me totally underwhelmed by what's going on in Australia? I can normally engage with almost any sporting event but this one is just passing me by.

Normally, I just ignore any sport I'm not interested in, but this is on the TV all the time, despite the fact that barely anyone seems to have any interest in it (it's also cluttering up my Twitter feed).

I think the fact it's mostly happening during the night doesn't help.

Agree....i normally watch any type of athletic events....major cycling or swimming events that are on tv and usually love theese type of occasions but theres just something off about the coomonwealths this time around, personally i think the Bbc have the set up wrong, i much prefere having the experts poolside or trackside when events are on.....think it's being a mistake having everything centered around Clare Balding, also the timing of events hasn't helped but that never stopped my really enjoying the Olympics when they were in Rio or Bejing.

Obviously I’m in the right place, so my interest is totally different. I went to the beach volleyball on Monday which I really enjoyed. I am up early today to go to the morning session of the Athletics, as it’s about a 2.5 hr journey in total to get there. Saturday I have a full day watching the rugby 7s.

I have to say I am impressed with it so far, but that’s probably because I am actually going so feel part of it. (Monday I was actually wearing my 2008 city shirt just for the cameras ). I did say to my brother that I need to get seated behind a medal ceremony with an Allam Out banner .

I know what everyone means by not being able to get interested when it happens through the night, as I find the same when world cups are on during the night. As much as you want to watch games live, when you end up watching them later it’s not quite the same.

Well fortunately my time zone means I get to see a lot of it, and we are getting pretty much 24 hour coverage live and replays/highlights. I'm off work sick right now so am getting a large dollop of it. I'm also slightly biased as I know a couple of athletes competing, plus I know the Gold Coast well (have a good mate that lives there) and recognise a lot of the venue sites. The beach volleyball is at Coolangatta and I stayed right on the beach (well the other side of the road) where the stadium is placed.

But you know what - the best thing I think about it all is they are running the Para Games concurrently with the able-bodied and not as a separate event afterwards - first time its been done apparently - which means they are getting equal exposure to the crowds and tremendous coverage on TV - I think its an excellent idea and I've been very impressed with the whole thing.

So two thumbs up from me. :emoticon-0148-yes::emoticon-0148-yes:

I can't get into it like I normally do, probably cos all I seem to catch is the hightlights. Netball has been good though, we are in the semis against Jamaica. Those girls move so fast. We have an athletics event at Costello on Sunday so I am busy taking entries for that which is taking up my evenings at the moment. We have a very promising male sprinter in Hull, Andrew Morgan Harrison, was representing England on a televised event a while ago. Of course Hull is traditionally good for hammer throwing as a legacy of Dave Smith who is a coach at the club and has some good young athletes. I watched some parents being interviewed on the the BBC and they were so excited watching their children compete in the Commonwealth Games, would love a few of our parents to experience that. We have all travelled up and down the country with our kids so they can compete. It is great to be involved in.

We had two T12 men’s 100m today, which was the partially sighted i believe. In each of the two heats one of the runners had a guide with him, who has to keep up with him and obviously is the athletes eyes. In the first heat the athlete with his guide stumbled and fell flat on his face from which he just got up and finished the race. The second heat i think the guided athlete came 3rd. But it was impressive to watch them get set up at the beginning with the guide ensuring they have all their fingers and such like in the square, then when they go they are joined by a cord and the guide has to drop away before the athlete himself crosses the line.

I am also impressed by how the athletes when they have completed their races or events just come and sit in the crowd afterwards with their family or friends, and join the the spectacle.

Next up Rugby 7s on Saturday, i am looking froward to the England Australia game which is in the evening session.

I don't feel I like sport in general anything like as much as I used to. Loads of other things to do, like music, reading, watching other stuff. There's only so much time.

one major gripe is the playing of loud ****ty music during the various sports, was watching bowls last night, totally inappropriate for that type of sport, i ended up turning it off, volley ball is on now, same loud music again so turning that off to.

In limited situations the music adds to it, but in general is crap. However I'm currently watching highlights of the women's pole vault, which has a certain appeal and certainly doesn't need any musical help....

I watched the ladies pole vault this morning - I can safely say I've never seen a more attractive bunch of young sports-women or indeed a more keenly fought competition.
