No, not the make sure you’re not sitting next to Chippy at the match or a Mackem caught short but being allowed to stand in a stand instead of sitting in a stand or standing in a stand where you’re supposed to be sitting. The Gov in their infinite wisdom seem to think we should remain in the 1990’s and have turned down West Brom’s application for a section of their ground to be changed to safe standing. Me, I’m for it because as bad as Hillsbrough was I still think that that was a very sad and unfortunate tragedy which was caused by a number of factors but not specifically the simple fact of fans standing. Also time, technology etc have all moved on so that safe standing can occur and is probably as safe if not safer than away fans standing at grounds laid out for seating only.
Nothing wrong with safe standing. Politicians will see it as an unpopular decision to allow safe standing so they won't allow it. Politicians are ****s.
Love to have standing back - won't happen in case we frighten the middle class, family day out Sky brigade
Not sure about safe standing. Loved standing as it used to be but how will safe standing work? Will you have a set standing place or will it be a free for all? If the former I really don't see the point. You are essentially corralled into an area where the only difference between that and a seat is that you are on your feet all the time. You can't move sideways or forwards. Surely it's as easy to sing sat down as it is stood up. Part of the fun of standing was the free for all nature of it, the mass movement when there was a chance - probably quite rightly for safety reasons we will never get back to those days so this half-way solution doesn't do it for me and I don't think will create the atmosphere there used to be. One of the big disadvantages of the old open standing though was having to get in early to get a decent spot and then find yourself gradually getting evicted from it by the sheer weight of people. I like being able to roll in a few minutes before kick-off and know I will have a seat and know what the view will be like. In summary though I am too old for it now!
Should have been back ages ago. It can clearly be done safely and there are simply zero grounds to prevent it returning.
Only in the top 2 divisions I believe. Celtic have trialled a safe standing section too, successfully as far as I know.
On the football field of ****ishness it was an open goal. It would have been rude not to stick the ball in the net - even if I was offside!!
I should hope you don't and the grounds do. Although it was actively encouraged in the old Roker Park days according to Relic.
