Really don't understand the people knocking Hughes, yes he's not the most amazing manager around but he was available and in our situation that was the only qualification the club needed to replace MP2. It got to the stage that if we had hired Katie Price to replace MP2 I would have felt more optimistic about the rest of the season.
Easy to say Fats. Who do you suggest then? (That's rhetorical) Let's not bother with the analysis of Hughes yet, because as we agree, a manager deserves 10 games minimum, before the daggers come out. But don't be hasty to mock 'stability'. We are currently in the midst of a massive crisis. Let's not smooth over the cracks. We have simply imploded in spectacular fashion. Of course, nobody knows who is the right person to turn us around, but you have to be realistic. Before we start "winning games and being as high up the league as possible", we have to stop shipping three goals every time we play away from home. We have to stop getting thrashed by our relegation rivals. We have to find a way to tighten up the defence. We have to find a way to threaten the opposition and make them play deeper. We need to put faith in our game-changers, and play them from the start. Just a few things there. Hughes, I don't know if he is the answer. But I am telling myself to believe, that with over 450 Prem games experience, he will recognise some of the things that we recognise, and begin to implement them, and stop the rot. Then, and only then, whether we are Prem or Champ, can we start to win games regularly and bounce back up the league.
It's not just on how he does that makes it impossible to tell, for me it's all about Gao. Until we know what his intentions are then it's hard to speculate what the summer holds regardless of what division we are in.
Too early but my thoughts are the same as when we appointed him. If we stay up get someone else in over the summer, if go down (massively dependant on owners intentions more than the manager) I'd be happy to let Hughes have a go at the Championship
Whatever your opinion on Hughes, I think if he keeps us up, he deserves a full season in charge. I say this, because I truly think survival would be a bloody miracle. And not keeping him, would just look ridiculous if we were to find ourselves in the ****e again next season. If we go down, I'd still say keep him. He's a big name in the Championship.
Strewth a bit early in the condemnation of Hughes.........In my opinion he didn't do badly at Stoke.........He didn't have the quality of players there that he has here............If the board were to back him with a few decent proven players next season I think he is more than capable of getting us back up should our fate this year be relegation. Which is still no means certain at this moment..........optimistic I know.
He was OK at Stoke until this year when things went massively pear-shaped. It has been a similar story for most of his managerial career. He has been fine for the first two or three seasons, before things go belly-up!! In this respect it is no different to Jose Mourinho´s.
Exactly . As you and Chilco have said , it's all about the Chairman and HIS ambitions ( or lack of ) . I think Reed and Kruger should have s spoken long before now , but what if they were told not to ? However , right here right now , Keep him , up or down , give him a GOOD chance .
If he keeps us up, he stays. If we go down, but we go down swashbuckling and giving it everything we've got, he stays and is given a shot in the Championship. The only thing I ask at this stage is that the lads fight for every game - the damage was done when the board didn't sack Pelligrino in January before we played all our relegation rivals. TBH, if we do go down I'm more concerned about losing some of our better players on the cheap. Specifically I'd like to see JWP and PEH stay. A year in the Championship could also be a good opportunity to bring on some of our youth team.
If Hughes keeps us up and wins us the FA Cup then I think even @Onionman will have to admit he will be staying.
I think if he keeps us up he will be offered the chance to stay tbh. Wouldn't be what I would do, but it is what I think will happen.
