Just watched MOTD and they said nothing about Watford's great performance overall, focused on the impact of Burnley's 2 subs. It wasn't clear but I thought Maps might have had his shirt pulled when he made that fateful header. Pity about the goal line technology.......
Just seen the lowlights on the website. Talk about smash and grab. Still feel a bit sick although they deserved it really. Even Dyche admitted to getting the rub of the green after the game mind.
Looks like that or a shove in the back but it wasn't by Okaka so would never be seen/given. Our set pieces were awful - at least give us a chance to score from them!
First thing I'd say is, if we give Eddie Howe and Bournemouth grief about their tactics, then Dyche and Burnley deserve just as much - their tactics from the very beginning we just as bad, if not worse! Time-wasting, surrounding the ref at every decision, falling over, feigning injuries.... It really wasn't pleasant to watch and made it a frustrating game. As for the match - think it highlights our two main issues - a lack of a good goal-scorer and defensively suspect (especially at set-pieces). Both need to be addressed in the summer. I thought Deeney was poor and won very little. I was glad we went 4-4-2 but would have preferred Gray on instead of Okaka, who did nothing We played very well and I like the attacking midfield 3 we have of Femenia-Hughes-Pererya, with Doucoure and Capoue behind (although would prefer Chaobah or Cleverley alongside Doucoure). Kind of want this season to be over but would be nice to get another win or 2 first...
I'm a big Deeney fan for what he brings to the club as a whole but clearly his "rumbustious" style wont work against players that are prone to go down at a decent gust of wind. One in the first half, their guy who played for England the other night ( cant be bothered to spell his name ! ) actually looked round waiting for Denney, stepped across him at the last minute and went down, got the free kick. In my day that was obstruction the other way !! But Troy does need to be a bit smarter !
I like Deeney but kind of feel he should be a squad player now - we need to upgrade on him (as well as Okaka and Gray). He would be useful off the bench, like he was games like the Arsenal game, but sometimes he looks like he's more up for a battle than to play Burnley did those sort of tactics a few times... a couple of times chasing them down and as soon as a player was close they'd just fall over - then Pererya gets actually thrown to the ground and gets nothing! The ref seemed to be getting conned a lot, until the last few minutes, where a few of the falling over got nothing
Deeney just never won a header and his lack of pace really shows. Surprised Gray hasn't got any minutes at all under Gracia - bit like Okaka and Silva I guess! I remember Holebas went down to fake an injury in one game - trouble is Huddersfield then went and scored!
