Has anyone mentioned Shane Long he was outstanding today. He may not be our most gifted player but he put in a performance, like we need from everyone. We played well today and deserved something. We do look fragile but Arsenal got a bit lucky.
Today's game. Was a bit like seeing an old girlfriend in a pub and falling in love all over again. You could see all the qualities you saw in her before the hard times, seeing her passion, determination, style and beauty.. You feel your heart beating stronger, you can't take your eyes off of her and you feel excited. We concede a late goal, in walks her new partner and you think what might have been. Anyway long live love, long live saints
Essentially the same squad which finished 8th and a Cup Final. Added Lemina and Hoedt, who have been up and down. Had a fully fit Boufal, Gabbiaidni and Austin from the start of the season (which Puel didn't). Any Manager worth his salt would have had us 10th-12th this season. We know what we are missing, but saying the squad is weak is also not true.
Weak is the wrong definition for me aswell, but I do think quite a few fans over rate the squad. We are about the same as a lot of the other teams in the league and last year we finished top of them, this year we won't due to a number of things but our squad is very similar to majority of this league outside the top 6.
Cedric for me and Tadic had one of his most effective games today, I think that Pierre and JWP playing frees him up a bit more creatively.
Was between Cedric and Long for me, thought both were very good. Tadic best he has been for awhile but his attempt at stopping the cross for their winner was so pathetic I couldn't give it to him.
I rate tadic i really do.but he is the sort of player that would bottle alot of 50/50 tackles. As was seen a couple of times today
Mate, his performance today was the best by anyone in a Saints shirt the entire season. Of all our squad, his departure this summer (if relegated), would sadden me more than any of the rest.
Well, I’m a little bemused at the level of negativity, from some, following that performance, especially the second half. Today, going forward, we actually started to look like a football team. Today’s result needs to be put into perspective. We scored two goals away from home and had two efforts cleared off the line, at a stadium where only Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool (according to the commentary) have left with any points this season. Those claiming that we should have beaten them because they were playing a few second string players need to realise that, individually, most of their second string players are better than our first string, so I really don’t understand why we should be expected to beat them. Repeat that level of commitment for the remaining games, against teams that aren’t as clinical in creating and taking chance as Arsenal, and we may win a match or two.
I was being facetious, but the fact remains; we have a squad comprised of what's left after the rich clubs buy all your best players, every summer.
