Hopefully this is a sign that Hughes has worked out how to make us play football rather than us just having a decent one off game.

If we play like this for the remainder of the season i can see us beating Bournemouth, Leicester and Swansea. Potential for a cheeky point against Everton and maybe even City if they play a slightly weaker side.

Credit where credit is due: Tadic wasn't totally awful today.

We upped the tempo at last! I'll be glad to see Jack out for a couple of games. Far too casual on the ball.

Result as expected but the performance going forwards should give the players a lift.

Fair enough. Watching on an iPad so small screen but looked like he just thrust two hands out in a push rather than n attempt to hit.
For me there is a difference, maybe not on a football pitch.

The realistic aim is that some more spirited performances like today will allow us to hit the ground running on day one of the Championship. Worst scenario is going down without a fight. Do that and we can write off a quick return to the Prem.

Did anyone else notice we only passed the ball out of play once? Massive improvement!

We still have a game in hand and I won't write us off until we play Leicester. We have this awful tendency to play really well against the big-sides, create huge amounts of optimism for the fans and then fart out against the lesser-sides. If we play Leicester and play as poorly as we did against Newcastle and West Ham then I give up.

To be fair I think a counter-attack goal would of been less depressing than how easy their third was <laugh>

I pray that you're right. But as I've alluded to: Spurs at home, City away, Chelsea away, Arsenal home, Man Utd home and away. I've seen it before this season, we've all seen it before this season. (And even then, we're not getting one-off results; just one-off performances). Yes this time it's a different manager, so it might be different. But I wouldn't be putting any money on it.

(What might be worth putting some money on is a battling performance next weekend, where we don't deserve to lose, but do.)

Amazing what happens when he is played on the left.

Still have a game in hand and the team appear to be buying into Hughes way of playing. May be too little too late but this game has given me more hope!

He pushed him in the back. That isn’t a red. I heard Howard Webb a few seasons ago talking about what constitutes a red card for violent conduct, and pushing in the back, is not a red.

If Mariner seriously sees what Jack did as a red, and Wilshere pulling Stephens’ shirt for 10 seconds, then ripping it to shreads and pulling Stephens down as only a yellow, we have a big problem.

And Elneny’s red card was laughable. Another frankly abject refereeing display.

He grabbed him round the neck and pushed him to the ground. Clear as day red card.

According to bbc match stats, we had more shots in total and more shots on target than they did. How long since we could say that ?

Wilshire should have seen red too. One for pulling his shirt. Then for ripping it and then for shoving Jack before Jack sorted him out. I’m only disappointed Jack didn’t chin the horrible little sh1t

He pushed him in the back, then Kolasinic shoved him in the back - he should have been sent off as well then.

Reminds me a lot of Rickie getting sent off against Brighton - El Ahbd grappled him and pulled him to the ground, and Rickie pushed him off him, and got a red from D’Urso. Referees that haven’t got a clue.

It was the back of the neck. Even if it was the back, shoving someone to the ground is violent conduct.
