Hopefully he's forgotten how to score when several yards offside, which helped him quite a bit the last time we played them...
The media want us to imagine what it would be like if little ol' Burnley got into Europe. Burnley reached the Q-F of the European Cup in 1961 and have also played in the Fairs Cup. Imagine if football hadn't started in 1992
The EL is horrendous for squads like Burnley. If it was the CL, they could do a Leicester (have the adventure, get the cash, and not be relegated) .
Burnley have spent one week outside of the top seven since matchday 10. They had a run of ten games without a win when the fixtures got congested, but they've looked likely candidates for months. Dyche would have some big decisions to make. Concentrate on the league and hope for the best or give it a go and risk relegation? It might do them some good if he could fill out the squad a bit and rest his best XI for the Europa League group. His style of play takes a lot out of people and having some more depth would be very useful.
Just for Spurs, it took several years from our reappearance in UEFA land in 2006 before we were able to consistently participate and still finish in the top 5-6 of the PL. And we have been the PL club with the 6th highest finances. Did a UK team decline an EL slot a few years ago, because all the logistics costs for them were actually more than the group stage payouts they would have got from UEFA ??
So, what do we have today ?? Our neighbours playing a PL "Spursday" game, and the 2nd leg of the PL 2017-18 Vermin Cup.
Appointing Hughes was almost as mad as appointing Pardew. For Stoke, at least Lambert has raised performance levels, if not results. The fact that the other 2 are almost certain to be relegated will surprise nobody at all.
Giving Pardew and Hughes those jobs was insanity. It's not hindsight but was so obvious it's laughable.
I can see their squad being picked apart in the summer too, which tells it's own story. Soares, Hoedt, Austin, Tadic, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Lemina, Boufal, Gabbiadini, Bertrand, Forster and Redmond will all go. Big rebuilding job for whoever's there next season.
