Where has this obsession with adam le fondre come from all of a sudden? Yes he has scored goals in league 2 for a few seasons now but so have plenty of strikers. McLean was lethal in league 1 but everyone complains about him not being a proven championship goalscorer so whats the difference??

Yes we do need a new striker but the priority should be a central midfielder that will actually run at the opposition centre halves.

Personally i dont think waghorn is the answer for our striker problem. He isnt a goalscorer, especially at championship level, he is a work horse but is that really what we need? McLean will work his socks off up front so i dont really see the point in bringing in someone else that is no different and with a worse goalscoring record.

I would suggest bringing in Jordan Rhodes from huddersfield. Over 6ft tall and has scored 35 goals in the last two seasons at league one level. Bring in a new keeper, central midfielder and a goalscorer and we will be fine this season.

If you check our stats for evey game so far we have had a hat-full of shots (possibly excluding Leeds) but we haven't buried them.
That shows the chances are being created but our strikers don't take advantage.
It was the same last season and as a supporter of NP I was frankly amazed that he didn't make a goal scoring striker his main transfer target.

Rhodes would still be a punt, he's scored a few in League 1 (not nearly as many as Le Fondre), but is still young and would cost £1m+.

For me taking a gamble on Le Fondre could be worth it, £500K would get him and he's absolutely prolific in League 2. He's not too dissimilar to what we've got though

Sky sports understands he may be on his way to the Madejski, those of you with the lower footballing knowledge the club is Reading FC. All shall be revealed shortly I should imagine on the Le Fondre front though...

It looks like Reading is a done deal, BBC Radio Sheffield are reporting that an offer has been accepted and he's discussing personal terms.

He'll probably be at today's game.

yup... le fondre signs for reading and baldock signs for west ham. i think we've missed out here, there's not many great strikers in the lower leagues left with the best either being promoted or being signed by other clubs. i guess we'll be in for another unproven man-u youngster.

We're going to have to accept that we're not in the market for £2m players and if that's the level that the likes of Waghorn and Baldock are going for, then we're likely to miss out.

    Macheda on loan anyone? :emoticon-0107-sweat
