It’s been very well documented that Benson is free to go once he manages to agree personal terms elsewhere. I must confess that his imminent departure has got me worried…: Like him or loathe him (Ponders) the fella scores goals. If he does go I fear for our attacking options…!! We are fortunate to have BWP who is pure class and right up there with the top front men in this league. However, allowing Benson our only other regular goalscorer go seems a little like putting all your eggs in one basket to me. After all BWP is prone to an injury at some point over the course of a season and if he does end up being out for a period of time, who is going to get the goals required to get us out of this league…? Euell…? Hayes…? Popo…? Waggy…? I think not…!! They’re all good players who add to our squad, but they’re either not proven, or not prolific enough in terms of the goals they score. I sincerely hope the gaffer has a permanent replacement waiting in the wings if Benson does move on. I’m not at all enthused by the prospect of us bringing in a young inexperienced forward (Waghorn) on loan, who could potentially find himself carrying the burden on his shoulders for scoring the bulk of our goals in the absence of BWP. For me it’s simple… If Benson goes we MUST bring in a proven goalscorer at League One level. Failure to do so is imo tantamount to us slitting our own throats…!! I would be interested to hear what you boys think we should do, or not do in the event of Benson leaving…
How many times, Rotherham want over £1m for Adam LF and he will not move down south (he hates away games down south for god sake!)
Franco, Waghorn is not inexperienced? See Wiki link below http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martyn_Waghorn almost 80 league appearances but doesn't seem to score that regularly!
Don't think RUFC's asking price is that high any more. And there are several reports that he's in talks with Reading http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/co...eading-in-adam-le-fondre-race-92746-29312268/ http://www.readingchronicle.co.uk/s...ding-fc-interested-in-signing-adam-le-fondre/
Good post Franco, I agree. Waggy could become an option but we really don't know. Hayes will get 10 as a starter I think, but what happens if he's not next to BWP, it dries up? Possibly. Euell was never prolific, another Hayes type(although Hayes has had some big seasons at this level) Waghorn is not a goalscorer. I don't know, promotion is more important than letting Benno go before his deal ends
Agreed 100%. There's absolutely no chance whatsoever of him coming to us...!! 80 league appearences maybe. How many of those are starts though I wonder...? Absolutely right mate. For the sake of a few quid I'd rather we kept him in reserve just in case BWP suffers an injury...!!
no rotherham dont been set at 350k by football league as he handed in transfer request and if memory correct was seen at valley a couple weeks ago he might come to se7 if he gets ££££££££
Do we want someone signing for us who's purely motivated by money? We could end up paying out a hefty transfer fee only for him to not settle down south. Then we'll have a real overpaid turkey on our hands who we'll end up cutting our losses on and letting go for next to nothing. I've never seen Lefondre or McDonald play so i can't offer an opinion on who i think is better. However, the latter is from our neck of the woods so he's more likely to settle quicker. Thus minimising the risk attached with any potential investment in acquiring his services.
My fear with Le Fondre, northern bias aside is whether he might just be another McLeod in that L2 is his level and will be big money and not produce
Like France I would be concerned if Benno left with as we would lack a natural goalscorer as back up, but I think CP has a plan about what he wants and will have someone lined up (either Schuulp or Mcdonald on loan probably with a view to a permanent move)but I don't think it will be Le fondre I think that would have happened by now if it was going to.
i wouldnt mind dawson though from wba looking for a move quality defender and scores lots of goals at set pieces and yes i spotted him first thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!i mentioned him 3 seasons back bfore wba came in for him
Euell and Waggy would score enough goals in this league to cover any period where BWP is out injured/suspended. If we were in the Championship I would be more concerned with our lack of attacking options. Besides, Benno wouldn't be good enough at Championship level so him leaving is neither here nor there. With a great supply line in Green, our strikers would have no shortage of bullets to fire. So calm down, it is all good. Have trust in Powell - and Ponders.
Ludicrous quote of the day goes to you for this one mate . Whilst i agree with you 110% that Benno couldn't hack it in the second tier of English football. It's completely irrelevant because... WE ARE NOT A CHAMPIONSHIP CLUB...!! And as far as I'm concerned, we never will be if we pin our hopes on Euell and Waggy to fire the goals to get us there. The bottom line for me is this... Benno has a year left on his contract right? If we flog him we'll get 100k absolute tops, agreed? Which in the grand scheme of things is absolute sweet FA and there's no guarantee whatsoever we can get a better replacement for that money. So, Imo he is a more valuable asset for us to keep than to cash in on. I say let him play his part for the final year of his contract. If he chips in with some goals that help us gain promotion it's a win win situation. He'll secure a move elsewhere as a free agent at the end of his deal with us off the back of a decent season, and we'll be in the Championship... Yay... I love it when a plan comes together . Anyway I'm off to bed cos I've been awake for 33 hours straight and I'm proper knackered. Hopefully I'll wake up to find we've won 0:5 . Speak to you all in a bit.
However good or mediocre Benson may be, either way he is worth more to us than to any other club because of his understanding with Green. Therefore it will be impossible for us to be sufficiently compensated for value to us by selling him.
Why is that such a ludicrous quote, Franco? I think your tired eyes missed the IF part of my post. I said IF we were in the Championship then I would be concerned with our lack of options; but not in League One because Euell, Hayes and Waggy are more than good enough to score on a regular basis. That is not ludicrous. Ponders is never ludicrous. Borderline insane, maybe?
I'm worried by this that Chrissy is too much of a 'Player's Manager' like. What with his old PFA links etc. It seems that either: a) He don't rate Benno (In which case he's a fool) b) He appreciates Benno may want a longer deal elsewhere and the security that brings I suspect it is a bit of (a) but mostly (b) - in which case i'd like to see Chrissy be more selfish and put the club first! As someone already said it's worth the outlay of having Benno as a sub for when we need him to help us secure promotion!
