Joe said last week that council sign off would by July / August and the full planning application will be in by the end of the year. Start date for the project mid next year, with completion for the start of the 21/21 season.

It was Parry’s era not the Sherman’s now I think about it, and the councils decision was challenged by national Govt. Parry was threatening to move LFC outside of the city boundary if they knocked it back iirc. The Kirkby plans fell through because the Local Government Sec. said they contravened government shopping policy i.e.stopping major chains taking business away from town centres. There was strong opposition also from St. Helens, West Lancs and Sefton councils over the size of the retail development.
The decision was more about its scale being supposedly too large for the area, thus it’d require to draw people, from surrounding districts, the prime objectors we’re LCC on behalf of L1 and Grosvenor. Whilst at the time I thought it was a weak backed decision by Govt, I’m glad it went the way it did.

City Mayor Joe Anderson told LBN there was a possible scenario where the city could build and own the stadium, planned for Bramley Moore Dock on the waterfront, and lease it back to the club. The current arrangement will see the council borrow £280m at ultra-low interest rates and then pass that loan on to the club at a profit to the city of around £7m a year over 25 years. That still leaves around £220m for Everton to find and last month the club’s chief executive Robert Elstone admitted raising the balance would “not be easy”. So while both the Mayor and the club are still confident Everton can raise its share of the funding and go ahead with the current model, the idea of the city funding the whole project is an option on the table. The downside of that from Everton’s point of view would be they would not be the owners of their own stadium and would possibly have less control over the final design and specification. It won't stay at £500m, estimated costs always escalate. It just drags on and on. If Usmanov [spl] was lined up as an investor, surely the time for that to be announced is now. Maybe tobes can tell us what the exciting news was from 2 months ago
