Sunderland to back Bruce in transfer market despite poor start to season.

Sunderland owner Ellis Short and club chairman Niall Quinn have demonstrated their support for under-fire manager Steve Bruce by sanctioning two more moves into the transfer market.

The pair have shown their faith in Bruce amid fierce criticism of the former Manchester United skipper after the Black Cats were beaten in the Tyne-Wear derby by Newcastle and crashed out of the Carling Cup against Brighton even though he has already signed 10 new players over the summer.

Questioned: Steve Bruce has been criticised after his side's poor start
'Niall and Ellis are disappointed too but they understand what we are trying to do,' Bruce said. 'There is a huge expectation after what we did in the summer, Of course there is. We have not had a good start. Okay. But why should we take knee-jerk reactions? Like finding my future questioned after two games. I find that very disappointing.

Decisions, decisions: Niall Quinn (left) and Ellis Short will back Bruce
'It is a worry for us that we are not scoring goals but I am not going to be derailed. We need a bit more firepower to what we have got. That is still on the agenda. We are still trying, close to a couple of things and that will help the situation - one or two signings, one permanent, one loan.'

Busy: Sunderland have signed 10 players this summer including Seb Larsson
Bruce, whose side head to Swansea on Saturday, added: 'I always come out fighting, that is part of my nature and I am sure the team will do the same.'

Gradel is decent but still a risk.

If Tevez stays at City, Johnson could still be a goer

Having seen Max at Leeds IMO he would fit in perfectly on the left and would step up no problem likes to cut in and have a shot as well, would be well chuffed to sign him.

Whenever I've watcher Gradel he's looked sharp but always seemed to need that extra second to switch his feet that premier league defenders just don't afford you, Wayne Routleage is the prime example. I wouldn't be opposed to us signing him though as he's young and will certainly improve and could well make it in the prem.

If it was a case of Gradel I guess that'd mean the loan would be a striker, the plot thickens.

Anyone that can stick the ball in the back of the net at the minute would be a bonus! <ok>
