One of my fave things is watching the darts world championships around Xmas time with my son. Nothing funnier for us than a drunk middle aged man and his boy randomly shouting darts scores that really piss the wife/mum off. ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY TWO! GAME ON!
Drinking was how it was back then, prettyt much every sport. I remember Higgins pissing in a plant pot at the crucible.
My granny loved the snooker so brought her tickets for the 1987 Masters final as her Christmas present. It was Higgins v Taylor in the end so she was delighted. That session cannot have lasted more than three hours and Higgins necked about 8 pints and did 20 ***s. Halcyon days my friends. Oh and we beat Chelsea in the 4th round of the Cup on the same afternoon!
ah, the 70's and 80's, the darts and snooker players were all pissed, the racing drivers were coked up, the athletes were biochemical guinea pigs and the footballers did everything.
The Canadian Snooker players were badass, Kirk Stevens was a complete cokehead and Bill Werbeniuk had to take beta blockers to cope with the effects of his drinking during a match... "Some of Werbeniuk's most famous feats of drinking include: 76 cans of lager during a game with John Spencer in Australia in the 1970s;[1] 43 pints of lager in a snooker match/drinking contest against Scotsman Eddie Sinclair in which, after Sinclair had passed out following his 42nd pint, Werbeniuk was reported to say "I'm away to the bar now for a proper drink";[6] 28 pints of lager and 16 whiskies over the course of 11 frames during a match against Nigel Bond, in January 1990 – after which Werbeniuk then consumed an entire bottle of Scotch to "drown his sorrows" after losing the match.[1]"
