http://www.goal.com/en/news/9/engla...s-arsene-wenger-defends-bid-for-gary-cahill-i Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger could be set for a war of words with Bolton and their chairman Phil Gartside regarding the transfer of Trotters defender Gary Cahill. It was confirmed that the Gunners bid for the England international and the fee involved was reported to be £6 million (â¬6.7m), an offer that Bolton boss Owen Coyle described being so low that "derisory doesn't even cover it". However, Wenger reacted bluntly to these reports, stating that the rumoured fee was wrong, before confirming the two sides were in negotiations. Speaking to reporters, Wenger said: âThat number is wrong, it is completely wrong. I believe every negotiation is between two parties and you only have to sell the player if you are all right with the price. "In this case the information is below what has been spoken about." Gartside reacted angrily to this supposed £6m bid by re-tweeting a fanâs anger on twitter, whilst Coyle, as mentioned, understood the bid to be far below what they were looking for. However, Wenger could not understand the anger shown by Bolton, pointing out that if they donât wish to sell their player then they donât have to and it is as simple as that, but doesnât know why the bid â regardless of how small â is âinsulting.â He continued: "You only have to sell the player if you are all right with the price. It is not true. You can believe Gartside or you can believe me. It's not right. It's not the truth. "If Gartside can say I am lying I am ready to confront him. The truth is that we never speak about our negotiations. "If a club doesn't want to sell a player it can keep him. When we sign a player we come out here and tell you and keep the price a secret. "They do not need to sell the player, they can keep him. If you ask do I want to buy your house and you are not happy with the price you say no, that's it. "Why should you feel insulted? I don't understand. If the player is not for sale they can keep him. I don't understand the problem. "If we want to buy the player we buy the player. I do not have to explain for how much." Case of he said/she said (truth somewhere in the middle) Negotiations ongoing so our bid was prob 8-10 to ween our way up to 14-15mn, While Gartside is probably taking it public to force us to pay full 17mn....interesting to see how it pans out
You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time..........sometimes you just wanna smack them ^^^^^
Bidding War attempt Warning! Opening Offers in excess of £6M! He is not worth £17M....not with a year left on his contract. It depends on his ambitions for this Summer. He stands a greater chance of making Fabio Capello's squad having played in Champion's League so unless Chelsea or Citeh are interested he wont go for much more than whatever we bid for him.
The original quote is 'you can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time but you CAN'T fool all of the people ALL of the time' (Abraham Lincoln) and that just about sums Wenger up. Remember 2 weeks ago 'Noone is leaving this club)?
Gullible words and negativity from you, as usual. Really don't see how you can call yourself a 'supporter', in my view that's somebody who supports. And you certainly don't.
He means, the paper and whoever else is attacking him for his '£6m offer' has no idea of the real figure offered. Even Coyle did not mention a figure, its likely the papers plucked that out of thin air.
Reeks slightly of Bolton knowing that Wenger is under huge amounts of pressure to buy players, so thinking "we can make him look even weaker and force his hand into making a better offer".
I tell you what is derisory, Bolton wanderers and own coyles behaviour, a player is only worth what someone is willing to pay for him, so if you don't want to sell for that amount fine, but don't throw your toys out the pram claiming its a derisory offer. Personally I think its derisory asking for 17m for this guy, especially when he has less than a year on his contract, he wouldn't be worth more than 12 if he had 5 years left on his contract, personally I would rather take steve bould out of retirement than sign Cahill (ok maybe that a bit of en exaggeration haha) It would be quite funny if no one signs him and he walks away for free, bet they will think differently of the 6m then haha
Cahill is worth zero end of season (and they will have to pay him for this season) - so, Bolton, you have 3 days to get some money.
