So so sad. My eyes been filled with tears, really struggling to read all the condolences and tributes, but also very healing. RIP Ray, you wonderful man
I’m too young to have any real memories of him as a player but I welled up a bit in the car hearing Holloway’s words about him on Talksport. Really sad.
Here's what Nigel Quashie had to say about Wilkins when he gave him his debut v Man Utd at Old Trafford in Dec 1995 ... please log in to view this image
Best tribute I've seen, amazing story. I was at that game, my first ever Rangers game, 16 years young. Still remember Quashie nutmegging Eric Cantona. Three days later we played Chelsea at Loftus Road, another 2-1 loss. Had the pleasure to meet Ray Wilkins after that game, you really felt like he had time for you even after a defeat like that (Matt Brazier own goal). Had my picture taken with him, chatted a few words, starstruck me. Great memories.
Club have now set up a page where you can send messages of condolence.... Remembering Ray - your chance to pay tribute https://www.qpr.co.uk/news/club-news/remembering-ray-your-chance-to-pay-tribute/
R.I.P. Ray. You will be sorely missed by many. Thoughts are with your family and friends at this sad time. 61 years young - gone far too soon.
So very sad. Way to young for a clearly wonderful man. My sister met him a few weeks ago and he was happy to chat and have a selfie with him. RIP Ray.
The outpouring of respect and the amazing stories by fellow professionals and fans has been completely overwhelming. I can only say how humbled, and proud as a QPR fan, to read and hear those stories. I’m sure we would all like to be remembered well ... but it is hard to remember hearing such respect for a football professional in all my years of watching and supporting football. Ray was clearly an incredible professional above and beyond what I ever knew or thought of him.
