Watching Kroos, Modric and Isco run rings around Juve makes me realize it is our midfield that needs an overhaul. Put those 3 in our mid and we are world beaters. If we get through, I'd love madrid in the semis.

It does but equally there wasn't that much pressure appllied by juve. It was nice to watch but there was no actual tackles going in.

Our team is punching above its weight though and while we rate our front 3 etc we are more about being a team and individual stars. Even salah is an example of a guy making the right runs as his miss rate suggests he could have had 50 goals <laugh>

We are more about klopp's system than any one player.

To win things the quality generally must improve as you say

    VVD
    Kieta
    Firmino
    Salah

its what fills in around these 4 next year imo.

Like noting wrong with some of the rest of the lads but its just about consistency and performances and for me the midfield 3 are not that. Milner prob is but he's a clogger too. Henderson windy, can.. ox.. all inconsistent.

It is also about quality. If we have our first 11 playing all the time we would be challenging for honours. But this is unrealistic over a season. Loss of form, injuries, suspensions etc. So we need a squad and 2 players at least to cover each position.

We do have the players but are the back ups top drawer? If you look at the squad of City for example, you'll have another top player as cover: Jesus is a great cover for aguero, Bernado Silva Gundogan in midfield and the likes of Stones etc in defence. All very good quality plaers.

If we are to challenge the likes of City then we have to have quality players prepared to sit on the bench and come on for as cover or playing Cup matches etc. It will also need a massive injection of new cash, mind you we have yet to spend the Coutinho money so no problem there <whistle>

CIty have a whole different ball game 100%

    you are right.

gundogan on bench, bernardo sila or sterling or even sane are fighting for places

I don't think players come to sit on a bench. they come to compete for the shirt and force someone out, making the idea of first 11 moot. the idea our team is static that x will play and y just won't doesn't cut it.

ok in general firmino slaah, vvd, kieta will play but TBH any one could lose form ad someone else steps up.

Clyne and lallana injuries shows what can happen. both were seen as solid first team. have contributed nothing this year. Can out, gomez out, matip now out. players have to step in and perform.

the thought for me of ings stepping in and performing is just not on as he's broken down twice on comebacks and even before he's not a guy to get goals consistently as he misses target. Even when you are willing him to score in last couple he's hit it off target or right at keeper.

Hopefully next year's team will be a logical progression off this one and we may even challenge for a trophy.

Looking forward to this one, should be a cracking battle over 2 legs. Will the threat and potential crucial value of the away goal stifle both sides a bit over the tie though?

That's not changing the whole system. That's playing a player in a position that he's capable of playing but doesn't usually play it.

I cannot see city not scoring at Anfield. Can Liverpool score at the Etihad?

It's possible, but both sides only know one way to play, so I'm assuming they'll stick to it.

logically both should give it a good go. City should have all the incentive to attack to get that away goal. A 0-0 will leave them vulnerable to a sucker punch at the Etihad. In turn we need to win that match so we need to go for it as the alternative is having to win or score draw at the Etihad. Both teams should have the motivation to score.

its kind of simple surely. cut off the supply or at least slow down the pass so he is offside.

TBH If one gets injured/ sent off i would do the following.

    1. Is can fit? if so it ok. play him.

    2. Is gomez fit. I think not.

    3. If can is not fit. how about a 343 formation mid game. Who will be i nthe 3? I would be tempted to put robertson in as CB beside VVD as he seems to have a clue.

I think a full back or CM will just have to play CB. I mean lets fact it city don't have big lads to dominate aerially so we can put someone in there.

police have found a way to fudge the city team getting to stadium tonight without pissing themselves in fear

Merseyside Police announce that team coaches will not take their usual route past the King Harry pub tonight “due to building works and to ensure the safety of fans”. They will instead travel along Arkles Lane, passing The Arkles pub before turning right onto Anfield Road.” #LFC
