I don't think its that. We are fully aware of our situation and how we will be on this hamster wheel for quite some time unless somebody decides to throw money at us for fun. We've been like this for over a decade bar one season.

Its just enjoyable to watch you suffer the indignation of back to back relegations. Just as it was when we won 5 in a row against you in the 2002-2006 period, or the record breaking low points or various other relegations. Just as you all took great pleasure in winning 6 in row in our recent encounters. Just as you all took great delight in our relegation in 2009 or 2016.

That is simply the nature of football rivalry. Sympathy for you may be as scarce as it was from you at our low ebbs, but that doesn't mean we forget just how poor NE football is performing or how our own situation is hardly one for unbridled joy. That is the way things are, we just crack on and support our club and enjoy your demise. Sunderland will bounce back at some stage once they get a new owner etc. I might see it differently if you were to go out of business, but if I have to miss the derbies for a few years to laugh at your club, I'm sure I'll survive.

The funny thing is, as bad as we are, if we played you tomorrow we'd still beat you.

Aye but you lot did say the championship was a piss easy league which you'd walk if you were in it, so I'm not sure your assertion carries much hope of being correct.

Love to see that quote!! I don't know a single SAFC fan who thought we'd walk the league this season. I didn't think it'd be as bad as it is but never thought we'd walk it. It's a poor quality league of which we are the worst team - yet I can't remember coming away from a game thinking "yeah they played well and deserved that" as I can't remember anyone looking like a good footballing side - not even Wolves although we haven't played them up here yet!

(It is a piss easy league when you spend around £50m and you still didn't walk it with the greatest manager the world has ever seen!

Say that to Aston Villa. They spent about 77m and recouped about 40m. Finished 13th. We spent about 56m and recouped about 88m. Finished 1st. Our net spend was about 3-4m less than Sunderlands this season in terms of transfer fees.

I distinctly remember an interview with Sunderland fan where he said something along the lines of "If we were playing Rotherham, Burton Albion week in week out we'd be top of the league as well" when commenting on Newcastle being top of the championship. Plenty termed it a mickey mouse league. We were told that you had such a great youth system, you would be able to supplement your squad without the need for spend. There was a lovely arrogance from Sunderland fans when we were down there which has come back to bite them on the arse.

Enjoy your time in the sun. The one thing that can never be taken from us is our proud history. Sunderland AFC formed in 1879, and thirteen years later Newcastle tried to emulate Sunderland and formed a team, each with the ambition to reach the top position in the premier league of the time. To date Sunderland have enjoyed more success than Newcastle, and it is very hard to imagine that anyone in their lifetime would see this changed. So for now Sunderland maintain the bragging rights, and I wish our northern neighbours all the best in their future endeavours

Please keep your acknowledgement of this superiority short.

<laugh> I see your sense of humour is intact. I tried to get you freed by the way but the gestapo won't have it.

Net spend. Everyone says net spend. Well a spend of £56m is around £55m more than we spent. Nett spend means nothing man. If we had spent 15m of the 33 we recouped we’d have been ok. You spent 50x what we did. Nett means nothing when you talk about the money required to survive. I am, of course, jealous but you spent 50x what we did ffs. There was no arrogance about us winning the league. It is a **** league undoubtedly but it was last year and, despite spending 56m, and having the highest paid manager the championship has ever had, you only just won it. Your owner backed the club and manager. Ours didn’t and we are paying royally for it. Sick as ****? You bet I am!!!

Chill MBC, lets start looking forward to back to back promotions, more fun than trying to get 40 points every season, leave them to it :emoticon-0137-clapp
