I have re watched the Everton game and also have a few clips off youtube of how we nullified City.

Everton made the grave mistake of playing too deep then trying to press city whilst in their own half. They were being pulled out of position and letting the third man runs happen.

What Liverpool have as an advantage is the pressing or rather hurrying that Firmino does. If you give Fernandino time and space he will hurt you. We also did well by not allowing City to be compact that is the distance between their players. This allows their short passing triangles work. You push their CBs deeper then you create room for errors and that is what makes them take higher risk passes.

It will be interesting to see how Pep has adjusted to our press.

I think we really need to change our formation for this one. I'd go 4 4 1 1
    Karius
    Clyne Lovren VvD Milner
    TAA Ox Hendo Robertson
    Firmino
    Salah

Id double up on the City wide players. TAA/Clyne against Sane and Milner/Robertson against Sterling. Use Robertson and TAA as wide attacking wingers.
Ox and Hendo to fill the gaps that Silva and DeBruyne like to play in.
    Firmino to counter Fernandinho
Salah up front with roving remit to move across they're back four.

If they play with a back three, then they'll end up with two spare defenders and we'll out number them in the middle.

Jesus is a fantastic player, don't think they will miss Aguero at all.

Am i the only one who is a bit underwhelmed by this game. Just not as excited as i should be over a CL QF because its ManC (though not helped by BfuckingT's coverage) rather than a continental team. Seems to feel more like "another" league match rather than CL .

or am i just becoming a miserable old git .

    Yes. Welcome.
I think we all would have preferred to play some Johnny Foreigners to make it feel like an old-fashioned European night, and we said so at the time of the draw. It does feel a bit so-so it being City, but it's still a CL quarter-final, and we need to keep that in mind.
Of course, to go into proper miserable old git mode you have to point out that it's never like it was in the "good old days" because most of our own players are of the foreign persuasion, so the full " jingoistic, Land of Hope and Glory" stuff doesn't apply any more.

I think that would be inviting defeat. Not because of the team you selected but because it's changing what we've done all season. Stick to what we know.

Good point. We have a tried and tested system - we know its strengths and its weaknesses.

So does Guardiola. Sometimes you need to change to surprise the opposition. Who forgets Benitez playing Arbeloa at left back against Messi at Camp Nou. Won the game 2 - 1

We might confuse him, or we might end up confusing ourselves. :)
Regardless of what we say on here, I think we'll just go for our usual game of a ****load of goals and trying to concede slightly fewer than we score.

    Maybe the latter? :D

But seriously if we are keen to get to the semis then city would not have been our choice. The likes of Sevilla Roma and even Juventus would have been easier. But in terms of excitement for football here, it is the CL equivalent of a derby. It surely cannot be like another league match. The implications are massive for both clubs.
