Where are the Canaries fans? They are usually over this board like a rash when they've won as apparently they like a bit of banter.
Dickkopf Matt Smith was pure quality today. I've said before that he does exactly what it says on the tin, and he did that in spades. One goal, two assists and won virtually every header. There was one point early in the first half where he got back to the edge of his own 18 yard box and slid in to block a shot which deflected for a Norwich corner. He cleared the resulting corner with a header that reached the halfway line. Oh, and there was also a 'Cruyff Turn' midway through the second half, I had to do a double take that the great man's spirit hadn't turned up at Loftus Road for a quick game. Another shout goes out to Furlong who has handled himself well in the recent run of fixtures. In those games he has contained Adomah, Sessegnon, Barrow and now Murphy. No mean feat. He's fast nailing the right back berth as his own. The other two youngsters Eze and Manning had good games especially second half. Eze showed some great skill in drifting past players and looks like the potential maverick that we're all craving. Manning was industrious all over the pitch and reads the game well. Onuoha has also played well in the second half of this season with another faultless display. The jury is still out for me regarding the captaincy but that may well be a moot point with his contract running down at the end of this campaign. All in all a good day and an excellent second half. The team overall had a good balance to it. A good back four, skill and industry in midfield and a no nonsense centre forward who bossed the oppositions defence. The subs bench looked strong too. Hopefully we have the backbone of a squad that might be challenging in the top half of the table next season. If only Holloway had realised what the most effective formation was earlier in the season.
Of course, I was sitting in traffic while this was going on so thanks for highlights that could be viewed in Canada! And now, neither Sunderland nor Burton can catch us.
I get the possession stats but don't remember they had that many shots. They were the better team the first 30 minutes or so, played some very good passing football through us and looked dangerous until they reached our box. But we, and especially the Chief, gradually seemed to shut that out as the game progressed. I thought we used more width 2nd half and after we scored the third they were pretty much out of it. But it was a pretty good game to watch, Norwich had some good players yesterday, who got well beat by us. Wonderful.
Intelligent, articulate and dare I say fair report. They do seem a sorry mess at the moment. I guess they'll be back eventually.
Just watched the highlights again. Not taking anything away from the team work or the ability of Matt Smith.... however their goalie had a complete 'mare. He was completely slow and inept....He was lucky to get away with only letting in 4. It makes up for all those goalies who use us to have their best game of the season. Lee Camp and the Reading Mannone spring immediately to mind Sent from my STF-L09 using Tapatalk
I'm waiting for Cols' match report assuming that he's up to doing a post, must have made his day, week, year, decade etc that tonking of the budgies..........
If our youngsters are as bright as Ollie says they are, they will know that staying with us for another season, where they play regularly at a highish standard...than would be better than what Josh Bowler has managed in his Everton season ( 7 appearances for Everton u23s!)
Their keeper was Angus Gunn (son of Byan Gunn), who is on loan from Man City. He was called up to the full England squad last year, believe it or not. He looked awful, didn't he?
Antti's knee jerks...... An entertaining match and a great win marred only by the miserable bloke near me mansplaining the game to his female companion thinking he sounded like Guardiola, and then, after moaning about long balls, conceding the goal and the lack of atmosphere, failing to celebrate our goals because he was busy checking his acca. We all go for different reasons, don't we? 1. ONUOHA: I think he's been in fine form recently - as has Lynch, to be fair - and he had a particularly good game yesterday. We often struggle against Oliveira for some reason, but while he was certainly a threat first half, Ned stuck to his task well and wore him down quite effectively. I know he's had his detractors at Rangers, but now he's finally settled as a centre back I think he's become a really important player. His pace and strength are vital, and he's also really silenced the critics who believed he wasn't a proper captain. He leads by example, is rarely booked, and while he does make mistakes, all players do. First half in particular he made some crucial challenges, and there was one lovely moment where he strained every muscle in his body to catch up with Oliveira and execute a perfect tackle before glaring at Darnell Furlong for being caught upfield. That's all it took. No bollocking, no histrionics, no playing to the gallery JT-style. Just a hard look. Perfect person for Furs to learn from. I suppose we should be flattered that he's attracting interest although it could be fake news used to fill column inches and web feeds
I dont care that they are in the Prem, as original poster says, give up and close door on way out. Being in the Prem and getting tonked most wks or gain experience in a team that may be on an upswing next season, win a few games and dally with top half and flirt with the Playoffs. It would say a lot about him if he moved for undoubted better wages and it would say a lot about club ambitions if they let it happen. As an aside Palace only 2 points of relegation so need to sort other issues 1st I think.
On the twitter feed there's a GIF of matt smiths Cruyff turn, please someone who knows how to do these things copy it onto here, it's brill.... https://twitter.com/qprfc
That is per definition not a Cruyff turn, more like a Zidane turn/the roulette. Sorry to come across as a pedant/dick Very good execution from Smith, unexpected I have to admit, but great to watch DT will get a heart attack if I mention Matt Smith and Zidane in the same sentence, sorry
