Joshua was very honest post fight, he had decided to keep Parker at arms length by using his reach advantage and boxing behind the jab. He knew Parker could be dangerous if he let him get inside so he simply stopped him from doing it.

As he said, not every match up is going to be a gun slinging fight, he won a boxing match last night -comfortably, and took another World title in the process. It was a mature performance if not a great spectacle.

As for the referee, I thought he was overly fussy and broke them too early on occasion, but to say he ruined the fight is hyperbole.

^^^ This. AJ did what he needed to to win the belt, which was keep Parker at arms length and use his jab, and being business like.

The problem with being business like is that it doesn’t ever produce spectacles and tend to be mundane and give the fans hardly anything to cheers about.

so I left home yesterday at 900 am and returned at 700 am today, long ****ing trip to watch not a lot - the Card was poor and the only highlight was a poor Price being poleaxed.

I’m no boxing expert but I guess the problem is that 99% of those viewing and commenting haven’t watched a fight since Joshua v Klitschko and don’t appreciate the control he had on the fight which is a skill in itself- almost Mayweather-esque. Or Mourinho-esque if you like.

That was just a poor fight.

  6. I found it really absorbing - doesn't have to be a slug fest every time. Joshua has made a rod for his own back though - he had set out his stall saying he would be explosive and entertaining and his last two fights have fallen short so some will criticise. It's not possible to recreate the Whyte and Klitschko bouts every time he gets in a ring.

Indeed. He’d probably have won had it been a slugfest but his tactics were carried out so well that Parker had no chance. Ref certainly did Parker no favours apart from stopping him likely getting bashed up.

I wasn’t bored watching it. Maybe if he does that in his next five fights I will be.

Always amazes me how many people buy straight into AJ's bullshit roadshow of being Mr Nice Guy.

Talks for a world heavyweight unification bout between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder could start next week, promoter Barry Hearn has said.

That was AJs best boxing display. Dare I say it, he took a page out of Wladmir Klitschkos book.

Better jab, head movement, footwork and stamina.

I don't particularly rate either of them, to be honest, but they're the best of a pretty mediocre heavyweight division.
There'll be some vultures circling around the loser and plenty of people wanting to fight the winner, too.
The undercard will probably be quite telling as to who will get the first shot at whoever comes out with the belts.

Have to agree. But Joshua is the best of a pretty low quality bunch.
