Lee Johnson explains his plan for making the play-offs as Bristol City push for top six Head coach also praises late goal-scorer and former Barnsley player Josh Brownhill Bristol City moved level on points with Middlesbrough and Derby on a hectic Good Friday of Championship action. A point gained against Barnsley may look disappointing initially but it could prove vital later in the campaign. Especially given the other results in the league, with both the two teams immediately above the Robins losing. And after the pulsating draw in South Yorkshire head coach Lee Johnson was asked how he viewed the race for the top six and what the Robins need to do to finish there. please log in to view this image Josh Brownhill of Bristol City takes on Ezekiel Fryers “I think we’ve just got to go for it. I think the boys were in a good place before the game [against Barnsley] and I think there’ll be many twists and turns – even that today there were many twists and turns – and we’ve got to do everything we can to give it a shot,” explained Johnson. “If we don’t make it then we’ll be better prepared for next year and we’ll hope for improvement again. “But we’re in it. We’ve got the last seven games to be enthused and to do everything we can to give it a right go. “The lads here are great lads – we’ve got such an honest bunch. And they’ll be disappointed – a couple of them today with their performances but we've got players like Josh Brownhill, who was absolutely outstanding today.” The head coach then went on to talk up his attacking midfielder and late goalscorer as well as detail where the club from BS3 is currently in the grand scheme. “He was just 150 grand or whatever he was from Preston. He’s mobile, he’s got quick feet, he can play in a number of positions and he scored a great header where he was brave, and we just need to keep building,” explained Johnson. "We're still really at phase three of five in my eyes. As a team we're still work in progress still. "It doesn't mean we can't do it but we're going to have to be at our best certainly 70-80 per cent of the time," said Johnson. In March we P5, W2, D2 and lost 1 - Collecting 8 points out of a possible 15, not a bad effort considering circumstances, we are now getting back to full strength with the return of players from suspension and injuries, we should collect a higher level of points with our run in, so it's up to LJ and his tactics, things could go well for us. LJ say's , " We’ve got the last seven games to be enthused and to do everything we can to give it a right go." Up the City to win on Monday - 2-1.
3 wins in 2018 say it all, someone is looking down on us for us to be within a chance of the playoffs.
We can't be prisoners of our past - Johnson Sunday, April 1st 2018 Bristol City will be out to beat Brentford for the first time in nine years when the Bees travel to Ashton Gate on Easter Monday. It has been eight matches since the Robins last won against Brentford - a 1-0 away victory in the League Cup on August 11th 2009. But head coach Lee Johnson says history will play no part on Monday afternoon (3pm kick-off), where a win will keep his side apace with those challenging for the play-offs. The game comes just 72 hours after City's 2-2 draw with Barnsley, meaning a starting XI shuffle could be on the cards as he juggles player fitness. Johnson told BCTV: "History means nothing and we can’t be prisoners of our past. "It's a big game for us and we will need everybody. We will need to play better, the pitch should be better and that’s conducive to the way we play. "It’s going to be a hard team selection for Monday. I’ll have to think hard about that, maybe I'll sit in a dark room with Paolo Nutini on!" https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/we-cant-be-prisoners-of-our-past-johnson/
Lee Johnson hints at changes for Bristol City's 'most difficult game of the season' against Brentford Head coach also says Monday's opponents have an awkward style Bristol City are currently locked in a six-way battle for the final two play-off promotion places in the Championship. And Brentford still harbour hopes of making it into that group by winning at Ashton Gate on Easter Monday. Ahead of that match Lee Johnson has hailed the game as the 'toughest of the season' and explained that there may be changes to his side to introduce fresh legs. "Very, very difficult game - probably one of the most difficult games of the season. They're really awkward to play against," explained Johnson at the pre-match press conference. "I really like Dean Smith and the way he's set them up: a group of young talented players and they play a slightly - I wouldn't say unorthodox way but it's a style that can be really effective but that can definitely be loose as well at times. "On their day they can terrorise someone but on your day you can score. The key for us is to make sure we do our individual jobs very, very well. "I might make some changes because it's going to require a lot of energy to play well against Brentford. "It'll be a really difficult game but I think it will be a great game to watch as both sides will try and play football in the right way," he said. The Robins, of course, grabbed a late point through a Bobby Reid equaliser at the death at Griffin Park in August at the beginning of the season against the Bees in what proved a difficult game for City in West London. But Johnson and co know that a win in this return game would really help stake a claim for a top six spot so it's all to play for. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/lee-johnson-hints-changes-bristol-1407123
Not brilliant, but not terrible either - look at Derby - they’ve been in free fall on a worse run than us. Leeds are even worse.
This time of the season it's just about trying to get as many points as possible, all teams will find points difficult to come by and there will be some strange results, the teams that can hold there nerve the best will be successful, we need to get behind the lads tomorrow and give them as much support as we can muster.
Not terrible 3 wins in three months that in my book is embarrassing, considering our pre 2018 form was fantastic.
We can judge the season in any way we wish but the proof of the pudding is in what we do over the remainder of the season, and that will be the memory for most during the summer. City have had some very memorable, lasting effect, victories this season that will live in the mind for some time yet and a resurgence over the final games would be nice and add a final positive attitude to what has been a pretty good campaign.
All the teams around us (Cardiff and Wolves excepted) have been poor recently - which is why we are still up there with them. The teams currently in the playoff places will be looking at our results as lucky for them - same as we are theirs. The top teams don’t want to drop points and the teams around the bottom are fighting for their lives. There are no easy games in this league but the games against relegation threatened clubs will be as tough as playing the top teams. Different style but just as tough. I can see Derby throwing it away - possibly Boro too. It’s getting exciting!!!!
when we got promoted to top division last time I had a good feeling about it... it was our time etc and I won a £5 bet from a few years previously when I bet we would go up in less than 7 years, we did it in year 6.... losing to Hull knew we would, even though I thought we wouldn't get to final!!!! LET ALONE THE PLAY OFF'S TOWARD THE END! at the moment my gut feeling is 7th or 8th ......
