I saw(listened)to Linton a few years back in an evening with LKJ in a Liverpool theatre with all the proceeds going to charity. Very entertaining night for i and i if i remember.
For me this thing comes to life when the pan kicks in
2 great versions of a great song. The original by Radiohead and the reggae version by Easy All Stars Karma Police
He is an absolute legend to most people that are immersed in the reggae scene. One of those artists than many people out side the scene have never heard of though, unfortunately. Probably one of favourite live reggae nights ive ever been to.
Liverpool is a great place for people like LKJ to do his thing, there are lots of talented local kids from an Afro/Carribean background that tour the Merseyside schools relating their poetry about slavery and their roots. The auditorium in this video takes me back,i done some of the plastering in it when the place was totally renevated after Paul McCartney's consortium purchased it and opened it as LIPA. Im liking that video I love seeing random acts coming on up the billboards, it's surprising who gets about. One of the best UK reggae dj's is this old fella called DJ Derek.. honestly check this out. Then skip this to 01:34 (unless you wanna listen to Shaggy!) ****ing class. Been to about 50 of his gigs over the years.
I posted this the other night but if we're talking about local talent then we have to mention Steel Pulse. By far the best reggae to come from the UK and probably one of the best live bands of all time worldwide. They were kids that met at school in Birmingham and just formed a band
The old fella is class Sky,He gets bigger crowds than Everton. I watched both of them and the 1st ended with a Jimmy Cliff track?
I can only assume that the kids playing in the gig are from Barbados dave,i did'nt really know what you meant by "Soca" so i googled it.
This is good short clip of DJ Derek. Top notch
The first vid i mean Sky,just after he finished talking it sounded like JC. Although you've put me in my place and its "Heavy D"
Great to see a new generation of "white" kids enjoying cool reggae music, and DJ Derek is coooooooool!
I thought you meant the other clip! That is Desmond Dekker mate. The tune's called 'It Mek' Great tune.
