I was so keyed up for this game. I don’t normally do this, but yesterday and Newcastle were just toothless, leaving me very flat.
I see one of two scenarios happening from here: We get a long overdue win at Everton on the penultimate day to confirm safety. Bournemouth basically putting the final nail in with a win at St Marys. The latter really doesn't bear thinking about *shudders*.
It's hard enough for me to see a scenario where we survive. Let alone a scenario where we're more than three points clear of 18th going into the final day. If we're to survive, it may well be that we rely on a favour (or two) elsewhere on the final day.
Haha TLL. That explains why you’re the only optimistic one on here then. Just keep avoiding the games, it seems much more fun.
I'm starting to think our only option is to pick players who are going to give 100% guaranteed, even if they're not on apper the best XI: McCarthy Cedric Yoshida Hoedt McQueen Hojbjerg Romeu Long Ward-Prowse Boufal Austin
I think if we go down we will generate a lot in player sales that we wouldn’t be able to spend so wouldn’t be able to gauge his plans. Unless we don’t spend anything of course
Going forward I'd like to see either a 4-2-3-1 with Boufal in the hole and Prowsey back in or a 3-5-2 with Austin and Gabbi up top. Austin the striker in the 4-2-3-1.
What do you mean by won't be able to spend? As in we'll bring in a lot compared to the sort of players we'll be hunting? Be interesting to see how many players we do sell if we go down.
This 100% I’m fairly relaxed about whether we stay up or go down but whatever happens we must get back to the ‘Southampton Way’ - developing your own star players and only buying in to fill the spaces not covered. Ok - if they are that good we will have to sell them for extortionate fees but if we invest just some if that in the academy, the conveyor belt will keep on rolling. No shame in that. The only shame that I feel is the hate spewed out against the board, the last 3 managers and some of the players these last few years. Yes there may be mistakes. There may be off days (like yesterday) but they’re all trying the best for the club. They want to succeed just like us. But there are 20 clubs fighting for the same thing and every season half a dozen will struggle. This season, it’s our turn.
In true Saints fashion, we won't be cut adrift by that game, just so the hope can really twist the knife.
