I hope we do, but expect we don’t. The usual suspects always saying we have this star or that star only add pressure on these kids. Far bettter to wait and see if any of them are any good. From experience 95% won’t even get close to making it.
Every supporter of every club in the world has the dream that his team will win the league. as you say 95% will fail but a supporter will still hope and dream.
What affinity do you have with the United Nations approach Orta has set up.. It’s bad enough the first team been packed full of mercenaries but to do it to the youth set up is a joke. If we’re in the big league I could just about get it but we are a mid ranking second tier outfit. Our age restricted teams should be British and mostly Leeds/ West Yorkshire based.
Is one of the usual suspects WJ, because if so, he goes to watch these young lads play quite regularly I do believe, don't know if you go Glory, but if not, you really can't have an opinion on how "****" they are. just sayin'
Back yesterday (14 hr trip home), and here until I set off for LA on Tuesday! I've never been a great fan of Denton. For me, he's a nearly man, and at the age of 22, I think he's missed the boat. Since he's been back from his loan, he's not had a lot of starts, and I think that's one of the reasons Harte, his agent, went off on one recently. Doesn't come close to Pearce, IMO. Indeed, I've seen Struijk play LB (just the once though), and he was miles ahead of Denton. Writing's on the wall for him, I'm afraid. But then, what do I know?
Ohhh. My head is swelling! Is there a hint of a suggestion that my opinion on a kid can put him under pressure? Do they really all hang on my every word on Social Media? How flattering. Or in other words, what a crock! The biggest influences a kid will have are his coach(es), his agent & his parent(s), not necessarily in that order. We're not talking seasoned professionals here, we're talking about kids that are desperate to get a contract &/or a place in the first team squad. I don't recall us having a problem with a Billy Big Spuds in the Development Squad before, or did I miss something? And you're right, OLOF, how can you assess something you've never seen? The Development squad is a regime that is new to us, so we can't even pull out the history card to compare, or set expectations. And whilst it would be lovely to gather together all these local youngsters, we have to ask the question "Where are they?". Either snapped up already, or not worthy, I'd guess. I'd take a promising kid from a top overseas academy any day rather than a kid whose only qualification is 'local'.
Doddle. Both sides have arguments that sound plausible, but are based on hope, passion and clairvoyance, with the occasional bit of economic logic they think fits into their argument. In other words, no-one has a clue what the future holds.
