My team for next week McCarthy Clyne Alderweireld vandick Bertrand Wanyama Schneiderlin Mane Lallana Sims Austin That would be good eh board members. If only we could field that side or anything closely resembling it. Time to get rid of more than just the spineless elements of the squad.
Hughes pretty much picked the team that most on here would have picked (I would have only have changed JWP for Redmond and put Tadic on the left. Hughes hopefully has come away with the knowledge that our midfield offers nothing to the strikers, and that the only creative players who can play role are Sims or Hesquith. The player that has really lost his edge lately and really annoys me is berti, he really slows the attack down, rarely passes forward preferring to pass back to Wesley. Thought Long did well on the right, but would play JWP
It was interesting listening to Merrington yesterday. He suggested that the players forgot to learn how to play last season but Pellegrino has bought a number of these signings and the likes of Boufal remained injured for a long period. I agree with bringing JWP back but the side is mediocre at best. We have a defence who can't defend, a midfield who are unable to bring the forwards in and forwards who can't score. The recruits over the last two seasons have not been good enough. It will be interesting to see who is voted "Player of the season" because I cannot see anyone being worthy, to be honest.
To be honest, it has been poor since Koeman left. The ambition at the club seemed to go with him and the comments by Reed about us being a "small club" seemed to reflect a turning point that the club was content to rest on it's laurels and not push on. The continued selling of our better players has caught up with us but I would have to say that the recruitment has been underwhelming. I agree that Guarduola could do little with this squad. There are too many dead-weights. Tadic has been poor for much of the season but I don't think he has been quite as useless as Redmond. I am unsure about PEH too. Romeu has had an indifferent season and Davis seems to be coming to the conclusion of his career. The two central defenders look inadequate and the full backs don't seem to show any enthusiasm to play. None of the forwards look like they will ever score and the signing of Carillo currently looks as inspired as that of Augustin Delgado, Players like Lemina and Boufal who look to have a bit about them, only seem to turn it on infrequently. Lemina also has the potential to be just as woeful as inspired. To be honest, I cannot see us staying up. The last two league games have demonstrated that. There were allusions in some of the comments yesterday about whether Puel would have allowed the team to deteriorate so much. I think he is accountable to some degree and it will be fascinating to see how Leicester do next season. The team lost it's mojo under Puel yet the appointment of Pellegrino was a far greater mistake. The writing was on the wall by the end of November and Reed was foolish not to act before Christmas. I find it staggering to think where we have come from since the days of Poch and Cortese. The reaction of Cortese would have been very interesting and such a mess would never have happened on his watch.
Bookies watch! - they have Huddersfield marginally more likely to down than us, with Stoke and WBA. Huddersfield gave Newcastle a hard game yesterday away, wheras we didn`t in the prvious game. They have more fight in them evidently. Oh well, this time of the season throws up some strange results - I can only hope we are the beneficiary of some of them.
Maybe we'll beat Arsenal. No, we won't beat Arsenal. We got crucified by West Ham (seasonal reference), we're not getting anything at Arsenal. Why can't I just give up hope, it would be so much easier?
We are never going to match the Saints of old with these new owners or current board. The new owners promised more investment....yeh right!! Kat has let us down and her fathers memory, by inviting this latest crowd in. Very, Very disappointed...... I am still in hope but somehow just cant see this squad saving the day. I guess I will be watching Championship football next season, although can always live in hope of survival. How on earth have we dropped so quickly into this position?
By selling all our best players, getting lucky with replacements a couple of times, then convincing ourselves we'd found a winning formula. Black box my arse . How on earth did anyone fall for that old cobblers?
Lets just play JWP every remaining game and hope to Le God we score from set-pieces. It's our only hope.
Hopefully we'll build a team around him in the Championship, and he'll thrive. Long will be a real asset in that division too. And Redmond.
Could you show me where they promised more investment Beddy, to my knowledge they haven’t said anything at all! I absolutely agree about Kat, poor old Markus must be spinning in his grave.
I thought Lemina did a great job of putting off any potential transfer interest in him yesterday. In fact they all did pretty well.
Must agree that’s the worst I have seen Lemina play ......in fact it was a poor display of which I haven’t seen for a long time all over the pitch. Never mind Arsenal and Chelsea next
A Premier League spokesperson has revealed that Southampton FC were ordered to lose the match at the London Stadium. There were fears that a defeat for West Ham United would lead to unprecedented and uncontrollable crowd violence. AFDJ 01/04/18
The spokesperson went on: “We were lucky that the fixture schedule chose Southampton for this crucial game, as the instructions to play like blind, one-legged chimpanzees who had never kicked a football or even met each other before were met with puzzlement, followed by relief, and cries of ‘Same as usual then!’”
It was in the early days of the proposed take over that new investment was proposed as a reason for Kat to sell her share in the club. It later was repeated at the final announcement who the new owners were and her reasons for selling up. There was a bit of discussion about it at the time, I could be wrong but I seem to remember Hong Kong Saint or maybe it was china Saint, saying we would rue the day we had heard of the group as he felt all they were was asset strippers or words to that effect.
