Remember all them years ago when City were flying high in the 3rd (?) division and our star player and city legend, Stuart Elliot (who was booed by the tosspot behind me the previous season), had his cheekbone broken. Dispaired by the loss of our star player, our then manager (Taylor?) rushed out and in a moment of panic bought the only available left winger. Big baldie, Kev Ellison. The guy wasnt a bad player (yeah right), but was the wrong player for us. Watching our Dele play now, I feel history repeating. The guy was a panic buy, an act of desperation and not right for us.
To be honest i don't think Ellison deserved some of the flack he got. He wasn't the worlds best player by any means but the effort was there and he even chipped in with a couple of goals (Tramere away for example). He was a good player at League 1 level and probably helped us over the finishing line in promotion to the Championship. As for Dele, time will tell like John says.
Translates as: looking at the general opinion I'm told to have by other fans, but not actually going on what I've seen when watching our Dele now, I feel history repeating. You haven't actually seen him do anything wrong, none of us have, because he's done nothing wrong yet. He's made a couple of sub appearances and played 45 against B'Pool, done nothing spectacular in those games but done nothing wrong either. Give the poor bastard a chance.
I remember Ellison having his best game for us against Liverpool I think. Certainly in the cup anyway. He suddenly worked out how to dribble and cross. There is a small chance it wasn't Liverpool or Ellison but that's what I remember!
i have my own opinion thank you very much. he might not have done anything wrong, but hes hardly done anything right either. in MY OPINION, the style of play we currently have doesnt suit him. perhaps by going direct (according to pearson?)against reading tomorrow we might be playing more to his strengths. and i really do hope so. i want every player wearing a city shirt to be a success. i am not not so blinkered that i see every player as a success though.
Is Adebola so slow because of his age or is it because he isn't fit? I'm nearly fifty but I'm sure I could out sprint him. If I was NP I would put him through the most arduous running and sprinting training every session until he developed some pace and acceleration. I would also have all of our strikers taking endless shots at goal until they managed to get at least one or two on target.
i was once dumped for going to southampton away, on a girlfriends birthday...kev made the journey worth the while tho..quality strike
It wasn't a dig at you or your ways of assessing players, more the general view that Adebola is **** on these boards which basically stemmed from when we were first linked with him and a few people pointed out he was old and therefore might be slow, since then everyone has been desperate to point out his lack of pace and fitness but there's been nothing from his performances that suggests he's any slower or less fit than any other 36 year old striker. His City career hasn't really even begun yet. I think we might see him start tomorrow (and not have to go off injured at half time) so we'll be able to judge him a little bit better then. But until then can we leave him alone?
The new Brown, Wilbraham, Duffy, Ellison, Manucho....we've had tonnes of them. I remember Ellison's goal in the 3-1 away win at Tranmere when we were both challenging to go up from league 1. Thought he'd do better after his good performance then but it wasn't to be.
the usual whingers and whinners on here would give Messi hassle if city signed him. they just love to moan. the answer is simple. either support the team or feke off and go support leeds utd.
I don't think he's unfit at all, he's just getting on a bit and he's never impressed me anywhere else he played, even when he was younger. I think he can probably do a job for us, so long as we leave some wingers on when he's playing, but he was never going to be an exciting signing and he'll be gone at the end of the season.
