Fascinating - didn't we have this exact same debate about the pairing of Semedo and Racon - weren't they "too similar in style"? Amazed too by the description of Prutton as a 'defensive midfielder' - every time I saw him, the word 'marauding' came to mind. Or maybe that was just the impression created by the Viking hairdo.
"...classy in possession" Umm...really? "There were times yesterday when Semedo and Prutton couldn't pass the ball 5 yards...I won't even go into the situation where Semedo tackled Prutton" Now that's more like it!
There's only one Danny Hollands! Although i'd still have Semedo at the club given the choice, but at CB and not in midfield
I'm glad he is doing well but don't miss him at all - I've thought for a few years (since the kish was moved into CM) that our more defensive midfielder was too much defense orientated and we were not picking people who can use the ball effectively (on a regular basis). I know protecting the back four is important but when you break play up you have to be able to use the ball consistently well and for me Semedo didn't do this - particularly in a 4 man midfield!
A decent 'defensive midfielder' should be able to blend into any midfield without changing the way they play. I see Danny Hollands as a defensive midfielder because of the number of sliding tackles and interceptions he has done in every match, though he plays in a central role beside Stephens rather than behind him. Hollands to me, is a player with all of Semedo's qualities, plus a hell of a lot more (not to mention being far more consistent). As much as I (and the rest of us) loved Semedo, I have to agree with Super, we convinced ourselves that he was the answer when he quite clearly wasn't.
Spot on! Edit: One day I will work out how to reply with quotes highlighted! This was in reply to WWOCB's comments.
aparantly from several wednesday fans i know they dont like him saying stuff like he loses the midfield................whos better semedo -racon or green hollands stephens i say the green hollands stephens connextion
If given the choice, I would've kept Racon over Semedo. I'm not too disappointed that both have gone.
Thanks Ponders, most entertaining Wiki I've seen in a while. Ivar the Boneless? Sounds like a Norse KFC meal. Now I know where Monty Python got Njorl's Saga from...
Glad you found it interesting, Tewks. I truly adore that period of history. You are lucky to be so near to many of the great sites of the Mercian realm. I know that Ubbe Ragnarsson was particularly fond of the Theocsbury (sic) area - apparently he found six of his wives there!
Didn't know that Ponders - history here always seems to start with The Abbey, you never get to hear about much before that. Six! Greedy sod. Surprised he had any strength left for looting and pillaging...
His brother Halfdan was known to lay with his women once and then to slaughter them. He wasn't big on children.
