Panama focus: Trauma and tragedy of tiny nation's amazing ride to World Cup finals in Russia as they get set to take on England and Belgium
    • Panama take on England, Belgium and Tunisia in Group H of the World Cup
    • They beat Costa Rica 2-1 in October to qualify for their first ever World Cup
    • Football in Panama is only just taking off ahead of the tournament in Russia
    • Panama recently drew vs Serbia and Wales and will not be a gimme for England

In the Estadio Rommel Fernandez, the Panama celebrations began the moment the ball crashed into the Costa Rica goal. The scorer, Roman Torres, ripped off his shirt and swirled it around his head like Ryan Giggs at Villa Park in 1999.

Coaching staff and substitutes poured down the touchline.

Stewards, lost in the moment, high-fived players who leapfrogged into a cascade of supporters on the terraces. On Panama television, the chorus of ‘Gol, gol, gol’ was one of those endearing moments of Latin American release.

There have been questions about the veracity of Russia's involvement in the spy poisoning. They had Skrpal in prison for over a decade, so why wait until he's gone in a spy swap and no longer active to kill him? Every TV private dick knows you need motive, method and opportunity, so where's the motive?

And if Russia had no motive, then who did? Well, who'd love to see England boycott the world cup completely?

Nicola Sturgeon has questions to answer.

In the American and British media there is an insane amount of anti-Russian propaganda being put out at the moment. What are they up to?

Thing is, most people swallow this stuff hook, line and sinker <doh>

Herman Goring once said, "The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

Corbyn was allowed to go to a briefing about the spy murder but wasn't shown intelligence, as is usual for privy councils. That's why we have privy councils. You can't say to a privy council, "Sorry, top secret, you'll just have to trust us." That's not what they're for. Cameron showed Ed Miliband intelligence when trying to get cross-party support for bombing Syria.

So when Corbyn said he hadn't seen enough evidence to support pointing the finger undeniably at Russia, he wasn't saying they didn't do it, just that more proof was needed. Rather than provide proof, he was treated like an unpatriotic traitor.

Blair did the same thing over Iraq's WMD.

Motive seemed pretty clear to me. To boost Putin's popularity during the sketchy elections. Putin's popularity goes through the roof everytime he has a conflict with the west.

Its obvious they wanted an argument or they would have picked a more mundane method of execution. It's not like shooting or poisoning someone isn't easier and more foolproof. This was designed to make an uproar.

You say that, but they invaded Ukraine, shot down a commercial airplane (283 dead) and used radioactive material and now nerve agents to kill people in the UK.

Russia clearly feel untouchable, which they are proving to be. What will they do next?

I don't need to list the West's crimes of the past and present, there are no 'good guys' in the 'new cold war' playground

Could be. Putin hasn't been beyond assassinating his opponents at home right on the Kremlin's doorstep.

At least that's how it looked in the absence of a Lee Harvey Oswald character being paraded in front of a waiting media.
