Spot on mate. ‘Respect the culture you’re in’ is such a patronising comment. The idea that British citizens who’s heritage is from the subcontinent or wherever could actually bring some positive to that culture with aspects of their parents culture , doesn’t seem to register with ‘some’.
It was in response to the whiney git with a chip on his shoulder claiming that 'some' have the 'utmost respect' for the culture of a country that they don't want to be a part of. Thing is most of us who came here as kids, or definitely those who were born here identify as English/British. The only ones reminding us we aren't are the patonising ****s you speak of But sure we can't escape that our parentage has a culture which differs, albeit Indian subcontinent is pretty much English culture as in that's what is taught in schools etc But how different is having a difference in some aspects more different from a kid say born to hippy parents etc?
