Worringly, I'm not sure he was even the most terrifying name on that list.. I wouldn't put a lot past our owner who has taken advice from 'Arry Redknapp previously as well as the manager he had just sacked so anything could well happen.
Evans will have someone lined up if not signed up.....if he didn’t he wouldn’t have cut Mick loose.....in my opinion. I think it will be a biggish name that will be paid well so he/she pretends to be okay with next to no budget....
In the press conference today, Mick heavily implied that Bart won't be signing a new contract and that Knudsen is also a possible departure. So if we remove the players who won't be here next season because they are currently on loan (Carter-Vickers, Iorfa, Connolly, and Celina) and then factor in the players who are out of contract (Crowe, Hyam, Bishop, Bru, Gleeson, Carayol, McGoldrick) and there is a potential exodus on our hands. The likes of Chambers, Skuse, and Sears also might not stick around under a new manager who is looking to stamp their identity on the squad. My gut feeling is that we are looking for a much-needed transitional period at the club before a realistic shot at play offs can be contemplated.
Can't see that if I'm honest, particularly as we haven't "Cut Mick Loose" so to speak.. Evans has just given himself a new task and a new deadline. Mick wouldn't be hanging around if he already knew who was going to take his place and I doubt Evans would ask him to... Also, if there was some "signed up" or even "lined up" then it wouldn't stay a secret for long, particularly with our own investigative journalist Westy on the prowl and again, I wouldn't imagine Mick being happy with keeping a seat warm for someone especially if we all knew who was going to replace him, as that would remove any leadership he has and would be all anyone would ever ask him about in interviews.. Hopefully we now have a few weeks of Evans (and hopefully a few other knowledgeable advisers) sifting through a long list and speaking to candidates as other names will likely crop up, particularly as we are openly advertising a managerial vacancy, we might receive some interest from some surprising candidates who are considering moving on from their current club.
He just can't help himself can he? Just seen a bit of his press conference & he has called the fans "numbskulls". Hardly going to endear himself to anyone - still think there is a possibilty of a fairly toxic atmosphere until end of season (if anyone bothers turning up)
Regarding the players, I personally believe that the new manager will have a clear out. Considering the style and methods of Mick McCarthy, and how he seemingly fostered an 'us vs them' attitude over recent weeks, I think it's a worthwhile question to ask how many of these players play for Mick and not the supporters? Some of these players have been here for three or four years under Mick and are intensely loyal to him. Often when a manager takes over from a club that has had a long-serving manager, there is a requirement for change to help with the transition process. It's all speculation at this moment, of course, but I believe we'll see a much-changed squad next season, for better or worse.
As long as we don't end up with someone who's grateful just to have a job after being out of work for a long time, there are good up and coming managers in the lower leagues, Coleman and Nolan at Accrington and Notts County respectively who would grasp the opportunity with both hands. But I've a sneaking suspicion Evans will screw this appointment up the same as 2 out of the last 3 have been, not at all confident about this, Evans out !
See other article for my summary. Oh definitely not - just wanted to share with you all early. Look - I'm really not wet / make things up etc. I'll only post something like that if I absolutely know. I rarely would with all things ITFC - I live in Bristol / have zero connections etc. Be nice to meet more of you over the coming years. So a new era.... SPANISH!?
Gareth ainsworth? Another guy in the same job now for longer than average and has brought Wycombe on from L2 very nicely indeed. Looks ancient but he’s mid forties. McLaren could FO as soon as his amiable chatty style, flashy smile and ‘I learnt from sir Alex don’t u know’ fails to get results. He might need money which I think he had at boro. He was at his best abroad. I fear Mowbray, my cat could manage Celtic to the title and other than that I don’t see a guy To take us forward the way we’d like the club to go. It’s really hard; carvajal looked out of his depth at this level got sacked then completely resurrects a failing side at the next level up! I think who ever gets it it either clicks and we all seem to be pulling in the same direction or if don’t and it’d all over as soon as we’re stuck around the drop zone again. But if ME plays his cards right and if we get lucky we could be on our way at last...
Good summary Nuggets. Agree that it's the lack of development of squad/way of playing which has really frustrated and this is what was echoed at his former clubs, even at Wolves they said when he started splashing the cash on more expensive players the team played exactly the same as they did before. We haven't had that luxury but he has improved our squad quite substantially even since our play off season, unfortunately the style has not evolved with the improvement in recruitment. My assessment of ME last few appointments The Dark Lord - destroyed anything good about the club and destroyed the good foundations Jim had left him with Jewell - Tried to get the team to run before we could walk. Tried to build a promotion winning side without any foundations in place Mick - Built us back up as a stable club put some solid foundations in place but never got us beyond walking when we've had the potential to run(or at least jog). I believe Mick is a good manager and in terms of squad, his work behind the scenes (he's clearly well respected) and final league positions he's done a very good job at Ipswich. He falls short on entertainment value for fans and his relationship with the fans, he seems a bit of a mercenary really, on the whole professional but once he's gone he won't give one iota about Ipswich.I'm interested to see how the season pans out, I can't understand why we're keeping him on.
I do hope he gets a good send off because ultimately he's done a good job here and it's not really in Ipswich nature to be impatient with managers which it seems to the outside world fans from other clubs are saying be careful what you wish for at the moment. I think those fans would have a different view if they were forced to spend money watching the football served up at Portman Road the past few seasons. But I'm not sure he will get a good send off, because he continues to make those barbed comments like yesterday. The arrogance of the man just doesn't stop. He's leaving now, put the resentment to one side and I'm sure the fans will show him appreciation. Unfortunately I think we're at a point now where things could get quite ugly given both interviews given by Chambers and Mick yesterday!!
I don't think we need to throw the baby out with the bath water. Bring the youngsters back, get players back to full fitness, keep the majority of our current team and splash the cash on 2,3 signings. No need for big changes. I'm not sure a good manager would do that anyway
