A big game on Good Friday and one which could do much to decide our play off chances. With only 3 of our remaining 9 games at home - all against Top 6 sides, and with a midweek trip to Shrewsbury pending, a win at Northampton feels essential if we are going to make the Play Offs. Will 20 points from our remaining 9 games be enough? That will mean 6 wins, 2 draws and 1 likely defeat. A good away turn out on Good Friday is predicted, and let’s hope Magennis is not recalled at the expense of Zyro.
The odds are still against promotion, but there's still a feeling that it's a possibility. This game should tell us whether or not Bowyer's tactical masterclass on Saturday was a flash in the pan. An early wonder goal from Page is too much to expect probably ever again. But I'm confident we have the players to grind out a result and keep the momentum (no relation) going.
Northampton have been drawing a lot of games lately, including matches against Shrewsbury, Scunthorpe and Bristol Rovers. They are only in the drop zone on goal difference, so they would probably take a draw against us. For several weekends now other results have been kind to us. The law of averages says that cannot go on forever. I believe we do need to win 6 of our last 9 games to finish 6th, so a draw on Friday will be of very little use to us. Better that we play positive attacking football and go for the early lead again. If we can get that 0-2 scoreline in the first half it's highly unlikely Northampton will have enough to come back.
We have sold 1,100 so far out of an allocation of 1,400. We had 800 at Doncaster and Peterborough, so this suggests an upturn in our fan’s optimism and support since Gobbo left.
Doncaster was the best away atmosphere in ages. I'm going to Northampton because I've never been and quite like Bowyer for some reason
Cracking atmosphere at Northampton last season including a pitch invasion and 1,000 plus Charlton fans abusing Tony Watt.
1000 behind the goal with the apologists along the side, minus a little knot helping the hoards behind the goal
Decent comments from Lee Bowyer at yesterday’s press conference - he learned from Terry Venables not to bollok the players in the dressing room & Magennis is a returning option, not a definite starter. Refreshing after Gobbo. If we lose tomorrow I think we can safely say our play off chances are all but over, we lack the consistency to go unbeaten in the 8 games that will be remaining. If we want a day out at Wembley in May we really have to be beating teams like Northampton. In “LeeBow” we trust. The first “proper Charlton’ manager in our dug out since Curbs.
TRy telling that to the fans who are singing his name. Of course it could all go pear-shaped, we'll see. I'm just leaving.
