    Age is just a number......

......the aches and pains, lack of hair, needing to get up in the middle of the night for a pee, other things all together.

I'm at the age my dad was when I used to take the piss out of him complaining about getting old (mid 50s). Now I am my dad!! Unfortunately he's not here to compare notes now (or perhaps fortunately as he'd be giving me some grief).

If you've watched games in the flesh at Roker and Ayresome, then you qualify. :emoticon-0105-wink:

Both demolished within a couple of years of each other, they were my Saturday afternoon choices for a couple of years when Hull weren't at home at Boothferry Park in the 80's.........blimey, there's another one that's bit the dust since!........<laugh>

One for the "oldies" - sorry Rob <laugh>

Just a follow up to that previous post of mine that got me thinking. Been looking at current Prem clubs with old grounds no longer with us. Anybody got recollections of those now demolished "tin shed" stadiums that held so much history?

Never went to Maine Road but have great memories of transit van trips to Filbert Street and the Dell. The Victoria Ground was just down the road from where I spent some time at college but I never went there either. I was convinced by some local lads that arch rivals Port Vale was the place to go.

The strange thing from that time (70's) was we all trouped into Vale Park at the Hamill Road end onto those vast open terraces - that's home and away fans together and stood around watching the game - you won't see that these days.

Best old "tin shed" ground still left? Fratton Park for me - you used to get deafended in there and it left your ears ringing for hours...<laugh>

Don't think there are any tin sheds left. They've all been upgraded in some shape or form.
Craven cottage always looks quite quaint though I've never been.
    Goodison has some character.
Even the smaller clubs / lower division grounds have been tarted up.
Played rugby down on the memorial ground back in the day. That was before the gas moved in. Think they were still at twerton park at the time.

Ahhh the Dell. That was the first away ground I ever went to. Went to watch Saints very Everton in the days of Ratcliffe, Southall and Van Den Howe.

I quite liked the old Baseball Ground.... that was back in the days that the Derby snowflakes didn't cheat!

Think my oddest ground was Molineaux when they had 2 sides of the ground closed off and unused, yet had their (what seemed like) whopping great fancy main stand.

However, my favourite tin shed ground will always be Ninian Park of course.

Before the grange end was a concrete terrace.

Walking under the railway sleeper floor peering through the gaps watching the warm up getting deafened by the stamping feet.

    Or is that just nostalgia.

    Or it might be neuralgia.

Were we talking about old grounds or old bodies?

This thread is getting too pally pally. Is the lack of football making everyne soft or is it only folk of a certain age posting at the moment. Far too civilised.
When will normal service be resumed? :emoticon-0181-fubar

Anyway, I'm off for an early night. Want to get some kip before I have to get up for that early hours pee. :emoticon-0120-doh:

I consider myself very fortunate. Born in 1967 and a Dad at 21. Now still playing football (and not just making the numbers up!!) twice a week - despite having a serious injury back about 10 years ago when I was told I would never play again.
Some of the youngsters ache the next day but I rarely do.
I drink too much beer though - must fix that!!
