Yup. Bizarre, maybe he's matured an awful lot as a footballer, but I think its more to do with how far Holland have fallen that they've gone from the likes of Kluivert, Makaay, Van Nistelrooy, Huntelaar, Van Persie to Ryan Babel as their first choice striker.

Yeah strange how far they've fallen. Might be my memory playing tricks but I swear they go in cycles.

Mental to think their last two WC performances were 3rd and runners up!

I think you're right, looking at their record. They go from almost winning the thing to not qualifying.

Even though they got that far never felt they were one of the better teams in those respective tournaments though. Their 2010 effort is probably summed up by De Jong's kung fu kick in Alonso's chest. They just seemed to know how to grind results out, which is what knockout tournaments are all about. Fair play to them though because there's no wrong way to win a football match, I guess.

Did he look anywhere near as good as the senior version? I'm guessing not...

Agreed, and although you're right to say there is no wrong way to win a match, that most certainly wasn't 'total football' in 2010 and pretty much summed up a dull WC where even the winners bored every ****er into submission.

Pretty much. I love Spain, what they've done for football and the players they've produced and dominated on the international stage with but that particular tournament they were so ****ing boring to watch. To be honest they were like that in Euro 2012 bar the final where they dismantled Italy.

They were so focused on keeping possession they took almost no risks on the ball which made for really boring games.

Seems to have a good record, lets hope he keeps it up and doesn't get burdened by the expectations of being his fathers' son like most players who have famous fathers do.

"What you've just said... Is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

    Apparently.

Virgil van Dijk: What a feeling!

Virgil van Dijk took to social media to express his joy at scoring his first goal for the Netherlands after finding the target in a 3-0 win over Portugal on Monday night.

Continuing his role as captain of the side, the Liverpool centre-back lashed home Holland's third with a well-taken half-volley in Switzerland.

And on Tuesday morning, Van Dijk outlined just what the moment meant to him in a post on Instagram.

He wrote: "Great time away with the national team. Really happy overall with the work we put in as a group during the international break capped off by a fantastic result last night against Portugal! What a feeling to score my first goal for my country too!"

Pipe down PJ, Goodison Park is a retirement home for former football players, particularly those from Everton's big sister club Man Utd. :emoticon-0172-mooni

You're right. I do speak a little French and Spanish and there will be equivalents of 'git' but it's far too particular a word to have an exact translation.

It's also quite funny that vache chouette is considered as swearing in French - English translation, cow owl!
