Just **** luck that they nearly bust us and lost control of the clubs finances? No that's not bad luck it's bad running of a football club. Our finances were that of SAFC, a British company, not of the country of Ireland and it's economy. We went bust under Drumiville by Quinn running us in the red and running up a staggering amount of debt over a very short space of time, not cause Ireland's economy went tit's up. That only meant they couldn't afford to bail us our of their own bad practices and money squandering. The Damage was done through running the club badly that's the truth of the matter and **** all to do with Ireland. The required rate of investment was at 40m per season apparently. Unsustainable at that point in time(PL winner wasn't getting that in prize money then) and why Drumaville flopped.

<yikes> Give over mate, We were going into administration under Quinn. He bust SAFC under Drumaville before his wage structure under Short completely handicapped us which forced us into a world loan culture and papering over the cracks. All our problems were born out of Quinn his spending was out of control, but we were were fixable but Short made it worse instead of better

Twitter is terrifying - nobody seems capable to grasp the fact that Quinn was spending stupid money in a time when we weren't making that much money!!

Nope, Quinn made no attempt at book balancing what so ever. Sounds like he's made a poor job of it in his other businesses too.

Well the accounts published when he was chairman and the long contracts on high wages which effected us in the immediate seasons after his departure support it imo. 40million of Drumaville and about 50 of Short's money gone with next to no return and a decent profit made on just one signing. Hardly great is it when other teams were reaching the same status at minimum cost using a good business model. Nowt will convince me that Quinn ran the club well. Everything points to the opposite imo.

Not attacking his personality, he's a great bloke but just as inept at running football clubs as Short.

His latest Business venture? Another one? Hope it does better than Q Sat. <laugh>

There is not exactly a queue of buyers waving cheque books around, so this may be a way forward. Niall is not the man for the money side I agree, but he does carry a lot of good will in the town and has the clubs interests at heart. If Bain keeps an eye on the financial side, and Coleman can bring some improvement on the playing side, it may well work.

There's certainly an appeal to getting someone in who genuinely cares about the club isn't there and all the better if it's Quinn who everyone loves. Hopefully he knows his own limitations now and wouldn't just dive in to controlling the finances and risk buggering it all up.

Not that I'm putting any stock in any of the rumours yet.

Oh agree Short has got to go, I find just find it amazing how many people have been swept of their feet without really thinking through the cons. I'd take Quinn(sounds like it's bullshit now) be I won't be getting swept away on a magic carpet cliche, I'll be worried if he bought us and keep myself grounded.

Well I hope that it’s true and snq has learned from his time as chairman of what not to do. I sincerely hope that this comes off and he gives it another crack with better advice and leadership

    In fact I’d love it.

I think why this is so appealing, to me included, is the idea of someone who cares about the club coming to save us.

Whoever buys the club should take note of this and involve someone like SNQ, because the fan reaction today has been immediately positive.

Given the choice of Niall Quinn taking over our club or somebody else, I would rather have somebody else.

As I said on Twitter - I wouldn't mind him being involved as he undoubtedly knows football - but if he was good with money, Short wouldn't have removed him from his position at the club (which is basically what happened even though the announcement said he was leaving to concentrate on other business projects)
