Something concrete by this time next month would certainy help with deciding whether to renew the season card.

Any investor who might buy our club will base it purely on potential now. Given the riches in the premier league it cold be a great investment, depending on the terms of the purchase. I assume we will be in league on next year, so it will take an individual/group will incredible vision to take on this task.

    Takeover rumours from the quayside

Not a one for rumour mongering on here but have been out for a business lunch with a few big hitters who reckon that a deal is imminent regarding a takeover.
A friend of mine known as Barnsey (due to his resemblance to the north east legend Alan Barnes) has let it be known that a large accountancy firm based on the quayside are currently doing due diligence and all things being equal it will be wrapped up within 28 days.
The takeover is being based on us being a league One club which is looking more and more likely.
I appreciate things like this are usually scoffed at but I reckon there might be one or two on here who have heard the same thing but frightened to put head above parapet for fear of ridicule. Be interesting to see if they come forward now I’ve broke the ice.

Niall Quinn in stunning talks to return to crisis-club Sunderland and take over from Ellis Short
    By John Fallon
NIALL QUINN could be set for a sensational return to crisis-club Sunderland.

The former Black Cats striker and chairman is in talks with an Irish businessman to take the club off Ellis Short’s hand
American billionaire Short, who bought the club from an Irish consortium in 2009, is willing to offload it on the cheap.

He has become increasingly unpopular with fans after the side followed relegation from the Premier League last season by sinking to the bottom of the Championship.

The new owners will have to take on the club’s legacy debt — estimated to be around £70million when the investment owed to Short is deducted.

He had been in talks with a German consortium but it is believed Sunderland may be returning to Irish owner
When they last flirted with relegation from the Championship in 2006, 51-year-old Quinn led a group of Irish businessmen — the Drumaville Consortium — in a £10m buy-out from Bob Murray.

The turnaround was instant as newly appointed manager Roy Keane led them to promotion.

Quinn stayed as chairman until 2011 before resigning after spending five months as director of international development.

Efforts to contact Quinn over the weekend were unsuccessful.

Quinn initially did incredibly well as Chairman, but, like the proverbial house built on sand, his good work was washed away by the fact that he was clueless. It was his tenure as chairman that acted as the foundations for the most clueless decade of club administration that we've seen for a long time.

If he's learned from his mistakes and made some better contacts than Drummavile/Short... awesome.

I've been told that Quinn flew here last week and was seen out with a group at a restaurant. That's all I've heard and probably what has sparked the rumour. No idea if there's anything in it. I hope so but can't help but feel like Quinn will feel he's done his bit for the club.

Unless....he feels personally responsible for Ellis Short's running of the club since he was the man who brought him here

We had nothing but an upward trajectory under Drumaville. They threw a fortune at it. Just **** for luck when the Irish financial crisis kicked in and their fortunes took a spanking and they could no longer invest at the required rate.

They were fine for a championship club back then.

There's way too much money in the game now. You need far more clout to run a premier league club.

As long as they have the clout to run a league 1 club is all that matters!

The piece refers to an Irish businessman, not consortium.

Lets hope its a member of the richest family the Westons.

But putting 2 and 2 together, and therefore probably 100% wrong, it could be Denis O'Brien, worth €4.7b with interests in Media Companies, Property and Golf Resorts.

I wonder if Quinny's been dishing the old blarney on the golfcourse again...

There's more on the BBC site which says that it's a consortium of Irish and North East businessmen and Short woud stay involved funding the off field business using parachute payments while the consortium build the football side for 2 years and then after ths period of grace he gets his payment for the club although not known how much but probably getting his money back.

Quinn was great as a player but awful as a chairman - try to convince yourself that he wasn't part of the club when the demise started but he most certainly was. Did some awful financial dealings for us. Do you not think he'd still be here as chairman if he was financially good for us?

Back to Quinn eh, he already had us bust once, had to panic in order to get the plank in we've got now. Please god do not give that man the Chairman post. Quite simply ****ed up everything business related that he's ever touched amd I don't want him running us again.
