Possibly for the top nations... for the smaller ones coefficients, and the fact a couple of actual qualifying spots are up for grabs might make teams make it more seriously.

Will certainly be more interesting to follow I think.

Because that's what football is about?

I don't think England will get anywhere near winning but who thought Greece or even Portugal would win a tournament?

Because they are better. They adapt to the PL but have much better technique when coming my kids get. Englishmen are the problem in the England setup.

You don’t agree that England are outsiders?

Think it’s clear that we are and the PL isn’t helping.

Agreed, we're not good enough. It's nothing to do with the number of foreign players or not having a break

How did greece win it though... playing terrible football the whole way BUT that said.... the other sides didn't deserve it.

Greece beat france who had imploded at that point then they met the czechs who were past it too then protugal who'd literally no forwards. (who beat england on pens)

that was a really poor tournament won by a poor team. Is that what footballs baout either?

The equivalent of tony pulis winning the FA cup (if he ever bothered) by crawling through the rounds on set piece goals and 30% possession. however both greece and tony pulis shares commonalities with what i said.. same team, clear vision and style.

With respect however portugal lat tournament out....

    a) they are in the list of good teams i mentioned

    b) led by ronaldo and beat the favourite 1-0 AET having battled for it.

    Rui Patrício
    Cédric
    Pepe
    José Fonte
    Raphaël Guerreiro
    William Carvalho
    Renato Sanches
    Adrien Silva
    João Mário
    Nani
    Ronaldo

    thats their team
    subs:
    Ricardo Quaresma
    João Moutinho
    Eder

the point would be not too bad... plus together a long time, stable and have a clear way of playing.

My point was england ahve no chance cos they have a **** manager, with the dregs of the prem with no clear formation or style or teamwork.

The teams above played totally differently but were both very clear in who plays, how they play and could defend and attack cos they were together for a long time.

    My view is this

    1. Organised like a pub team

    2. Managed by a #semipro manager

    3. team picked by flavour of month

    4. no style/system/england way.

    5. squad chops and changes all the time and dictated by prem managers pulling players.

My view is team who win things know each other well, have a set style and system and 3 weeks together is a finishing camp not a nice to meet you camp.

England are so disorganised its a joke.

The team itself isn't all that changed but....

    2015 first qualifier

    Joe HART (GK)
    Kyle WALKER
    Danny ROSE
    Eric DIER
    Gary CAHILL
    John STONES
    Raheem STERLING
    Jordan HENDERSON
    Harry KANE 82'
    Wayne ROONEY (C)
    Adam LALLANA

    2016 last qualifier

    Jack BUTLAND (GK)
    Kieran TRIPPIER
    Aaron CRESSWELL
    Michael KEANE
    Harry MAGUIRE
    John STONES
    Harry WINKS
    Jordan HENDERSON
    Harry KANE (C)
    Dele ALLI
    Marcus RASHFORD
    '

now....change is not a bad thing but.... this is just an example. Can we predict any england squad really, is there a core really committed 14-16 players england would rely on to grow as a team for 2 years?

    My view is this

    Team should be:

    1. Pickford (others in poor formt
    2. Walker
    3. Rose
    4. Dier (CB not CM)
    5. Stones (CB, hope for best)
    6. Henderson (yeek)
    7. Lallana
    8. Alli
    9. Kane
    10. Rashford (left of 3)
    11. Sterling (right of 3)

Thats a 433 with lallana if fit and alli as CMs (already in trouble buy hey)

We can debate about middle 3 but that front 3 are a must and back 4 prob ok.

the younger cbs etc need to be in squad a while to force their way in.

We should have had this team for 12/18 months min working together every training camp not on next match as they were piss easy but on the finals and what we are doing. Build the system and philosophy.

yours knowing you won't read past first sentence, your every loving friendly neighbor hood spider man

    Mito.

I'm really only interested in club football. I watch internationals sometimes because there's no proper footie on (because of the sodding internationals).
I would disagree with any proposal that interferes with the league programme in a vain attempt to assist the national team.

I actually think its the variation in style which hinders us. You have some players like Kane who play in a team where everything is set up to go through him. Players at utd not playing expansive football, players at Liverpool who arent used to doing dirty work or seeing out tight games. It goes on elsewhere too.

Whereas in other leagues there is a lot of similarity between teams. Italy most teams play a tight defensive style and so does the national team and it generally works out for them. German teams all play a similarly quite expabsive and energetic style and it pays dividends that they all look at home in the national team. Spain, yes Barcelona play patient possession football, but Real Madrid also have a similarly expansive style.

England just stick together a bunch of players who can't play football and want to kick it long, players who play with much better players at their clubs and so on.
We dont play with a style at the national stage and I dont ever see that changing.

Even Klopp picked up on it in his first season. The premier league is a one off where some teams play one way and others another, he was surprised by the likes of Pulis and Mourinho whose sole aim is to disrupt your game
