My eldest is going with a mate to the world cup in Russia. There are understandable nerves about this, but they want to go, and have organised all they can. We have been to quite a few games there over the years and police are very very organised. That is an understatement. I took said son to Spurs away (when Giovanni scored his wonder free kick) and police sent us into a dead end full of home fans when I asked for directions to the away end. That will not happen in Russia at a world cup! Also took him to Nuremberg for England v Trinidad and Tobago some years ago. The organisation around the city was fantastic, and no way will Russia want to be shown up in comparison. Between games and in the suburbs late at night who know what will happen, but it's not a country with a pub culture and hopefully he will be sensible, and stay with people we know. He was born there and our friends are superb, so all being well they'll have a great time. Jealous, moi?

The Dutch have a big problem with hooligans, their police don't **** about, they are indiscriminate, aggressive and make arrests. Maybe one or two were acting like ****s and then the riot squad swoops like a swat operation and start filling everyone in and blasting them with tear gas. A reaction is inevitable whether you're a lary **** or not. A reaction equals an arrest. When a group of 5000 is assaulted it doesn't take much to single 100 out.
