Ridiculous if we bring him back, a huge step backwards and risks alienating our growing supporter base in Wrexham (1 member at present).
He's still hammering out the final details of his role as assistant to Robbo. Should be sorted early next week.
The guy was disappointed to hear this as he thought with Powell being a great servant to Southend in the past that he had more about him.
Southend have been extremely naive in that case - Fidel Everitt is heavily touting Powell’s return today so there is probably something in it. I can’t see that 5 year ST being dispatched to Wrexham after this.
The club's new hierarchy should take a look at Graham Potter who is currently managing Swedish club Ostersunds FK. He's taken the club from the fourth tier to the first, won the Swedish cup and guided them to a place in the Europa League. He'll be snapped up by a bigger club before long.
I think we need another fans group. we should call it SCOPE. Sir Christopher Of Powell Entry and only disband once he's back. @Royston Vasey - you're chance to lead a group to rival your mate ricks? We can set up a fanzine?
Looking at the Southend fans forum, they will be fuming if Powell quits & joins us. They reckon he is different class to Fake Tan Phil
At least I know you are genuine and not a WUM in your genuine adoration of Powell. Not many grown (cough) men sing the Chris Powell song on a packed commuter train ...at least, not when they are sober.
Chris Powell isn't even quoted as next perm Charlton boss.... so the bookies do not feel it is an option..... and they even give Sol Campbell a quote
They did more than try to ignore it, they completely succeeded. Our past, our independence, our reason to exist. All consigned to the shredder. In their place a training facility and feeder club, to be gradually transformed into a gentrified leisure centre and a corporate hospitality venue. Amusing gimmicks for the simple-minded locals like a sofa, a cross-bar challenge and sex in the centre circle. All part of the happy match-day experience. I'm not sure I ever promoted the notion that we should ignore our past. Even the last four years should not be erased from our history. Indeed it should be remembered keenly and not ever forgiven, in the hope that it does not happen again. We should hold on to memories of the bad times as much as we enjoy recalling the better times and the people who have enriched our history. Chris Powell is one of those people, and I will always have great regard for him. If he ever chose to return and circumstances were to make it possible I would welcome him back. But I see no need to actively pursue him at this time, when he has just begun working for another Club and our Club is in a state of transition and some turmoil. Doubtless our new owners have their plans. If there are no obvious reasons to doubt their honesty I am happy to trust their judgment. There are a lot of stories flying around at the moment, a lot of rumours and gossip. I'm trying not to get entangled in too much of it.
