I'm with you Weighty - doesn't really send the pulses racing (i'd probably actually prefer Di Canio - and that's saying something LOL)
Have to agree, but I also think he would be a far far greater appointment than probably 95% of the names which get thrown around and will probably be in the Owners thoughts. Would be a sensible and logical choice rather than one to grab the headlines.
Yeah mixed feelings about Mowbray, I like the idea of someone who has history with the club but not sure he’s the man. I’d like someone with Championship/ PL experience but quite honestly if we are going to attract someone decent with the qualities we want, ME is going to have to spend. Time will tell but I can’t see a big change in how the club operates financially and that’s why I’ve felt steady Mick should stay in the past. As change is necessary now though, just hope it benefits the long suffering fans.
We historically fare better when we go for a younger, hungrier managers (Ramsey, Robson, Burley) than a big name to get the pulses racing (Milburn, Keane). I say go for our first foreign manager and choose Steijn. He's my first choice. Question to the forum, who would your realistic first choice option be?
What's with the fascination for Reuser? He has no managerial experience whatsoever, and his only coaching role is with the Dutch under 16's. Is a big ask to go from coaching kids to a full English team (not saying it can't be done)
I would see Mowbray as a fall back position.Would prefer a younger more progressive manager with a bit more vision about taking the whole Club forward (in the Robson/Burley mould)but probably too much to ask!
We need a coach not a manager in my opinion and nobody has experience until they get a chance.....I don’t think Pep had any managerial experience until Barcelona gave him a chance so if Barcelona can give a guy a chance why can’t we....
Agreed, but Pep started as manager of their reserve team. You very rarely get a manger starting out at the top, they usually work their way up. Manager, coach - same meat.
Agreed managing reserves is similar to managing u16 international so maybe Reuser is due a chance.... I’d say a manager deals with everything at a club ie.Wenger......and a Coach is just involved in first team affairs.
Maybe get him in as assistant manager / U23 manager? He ticks a lot of the boxes, so i wouldn't be averse to him coming in, but ideally i'd prefer someone with some managerial experience.
While I'm against Reuser being in charge of the team, he could certainly be beneficial for our young players, but I guess he'd see an U23 role as a step down from his current position. On a wider basis, it would be interesting to see if we went to a Head Coach / Director of Football approach. It would never happen under a manager like McCarthy, Mowbray, and some of the other British names being bandied about, but a foreign manager would be more receptive to the notion.
I guess I want someone that will come in with fresh ideas, not someone that is trying to recreate what they have done somewhere else ie. Keane at Sunderland Jewel at Wigan Mick at Wolves. Let’s give someone a chance to do it first at Ipswich....I put Passion before experience in this appointment.
Then why not throw Nash in at the deep end? Already at the club and has the U23 team playing better football than the first team.
Depends on what our expectations are. Nash/rueser etc will probably need a buffer period of low expectations to build squad their way. I feel the club needs that statement of ambition and direction to bring excitement back to the stands. Someone like Mowbray may not be the most exciting name but will freshen the club up, get a connection with the fans give a realistic chance of a top six finish without having to completely start again... Again. My other concern is one I've had since McCarthy came in. I can't think of a club that has done well in the wake of him leaving. Certainly with Wolves they went with an untested manager from abroad without success. I think a manager in the Mowbray mould would be more likely to use the basis of McCarthy's squad to achieve something positive. Although, can't guarantee anything with any manager so why not take the plunge...
To be fair any football is better than the first team.....................personally I think we need someone who’s not in the current set up to freshen it up.
I see McLaren is another name to be linked now. I wouldn't be happy with this, but can definitely see it happening
Out of work, big name, some previous success...sounds like an ME appointment to me. Not really too keen on this as as far as I'm aware he has no history of working with clubs on a small budget or has any real success over the past 10 years, infact every position he has held bar Twente has been a failure in the past 10 years!!
