The United '99 and '08 teams both won league and CL doubles, one of them also threw in the FA cup. That is what it takes to be a great team. City may well yet do it, we'll see soon enough. The 'Invincibles' didn't come anywhere near doing it.
It's not often you look through a team and there is no weakness. Schmeichel Irwin Bruce Pallister Parker Kanchelskis Ince Keane Giggs Hughes Cantona That was the main starting 11 if I remember correctly?
It’s completely subjective and impossible to answer using tangible facts, as there’s too many variables e.g. the quality of the opposition at the time, money spent etc, etc. Personally the side I’ve enjoyed watching the most was the Arsenal side in their pomp. The only other side barring my own that I’d have paid money to watch.
2008 - PL easily the strongest league in Europe. 4 teams in the QF of the CL, 3 teams in the semi final. All English final. United won the PL and the CL. Nuff said. Fergie did that when the Glazers were penny pinching as well. It helped that he found a kid called Ronaldo.
Ronaldo, Tevez and Rooney as the main forwards that season. Ronaldo was absolutely demolishing everything in his path, big games, small games, get out of my way. Stick the best centre half pairing in world football in front of VDS, then Giggs, Scholes and Carrick supplying the forwards you can see why nobody stood a chance against us.
It is very hard to compare eras I think. Stick that 93/94 team in a time machine and drop them in a PL game now and they probably get battered by anyone let alone Man City. Even the 2008 team was 10 years ago and I find it hard to compare. So yeah, one of the best, and definitely the best of this recent era, but can't really compare them to teams of the past imo.
Yeah he doesn't. Probably doesn't even make it as a pro nowadays. If those players were born nowadays with the talent they have and given the training the young players get nowadays then yeah, but that is a lot of ifs and buts. Look back at some clips of 90s football and everything is gash compared to now. Pitches, fitness, style of play, speed of the game all of it is ****e.
Man United when they had Giggs and Kanchelskis belting down the wings was a joy to watch Arsenal used to play some beautiful stuff too around the time of the invincibles - Henry is one of my all-time favourite Prem players This Man City team can also be extremely good to watch, and certainly up there as one of the best - they just need to back this up with trophies... and with the money they have available, they could dominate for a few years now
Don't agree with that. I've got full 90 mins of both Liverpool vs Newcastle 4-3's in nineties and they are ****ing brilliant. Full on attack, good play, good goals, amazing atmosphere and a lot of top British players. 90s football was great.
I didn't say the games weren't enjoyable just that the standard of footballer has quite clearly gone up since then so it is hard to compare a team from almost 25 years ago to one now.
