As someone who has suffered the loss of a family member due to a drink drive incident, I think anyone who does it should be locked up for a long time whether they hurt someone or not!

That said - How many times can any of us say we've got so pissed we can't actually remember and didn't know what we were doing when that pissed? (Not saying Gibson was by any stretch) but my point is, there are 3 or 4 times in my life where I still have absolutely no recollection of what I was doing. I could've easily got in the car and driven without knowing I was doing it (I'm guessing I didn't by the fact that I have no criminal record) - I personally think the use of a hand held mobile phone should carry as heavy if not a heavier sentence as, if you're driving and using a phone, then you're consciously aware of it and conscioulsy causing danger to others - if' youre absolutely rat arsed then you're not doing this consciously!

Probably a story for another thread but still a valid point

No but you were consciously knowing you were getting rat arsed. I've abused drink and drugs my whole life, lost my job because of it. Deserved it though, when you get that rat arsed you waver any defence of anything you might do in that period imo, I take it on the chin that I ruined my own life even though I can't remember the incident.

I'm saying all this but I'm sat drinking JD neat on a Monday morning <laugh> not having a good day. Doctors at 3 though.

Quakerhouse in Darlington on Sunday mate - come see my duo - I'll get you a couple of diet cokes...

I agree everyone should be punished but what I mean is that I could've gone out without car keys, walked in my front door and picked up the car keys and driven - terrifies me as I have no idea what I did in those hours (about 2 or 3 hours each time I can;t remember!!)

Aye true!! Never expect promises from you fella - you seem a pretty honest bloke and I know if you can make it you will but also understand if you can't then won't (and at least you're one who says that instead of "Yeah I'll go" then not turn up like most of my facebook "friends") - the diet coke is a joke by the way - of course I'll buy you the full fat stuff....

If I hit a bar I'll cane it but strapped as **** atm as I've got delay in my benefit cause of my change in circumstances with the missus ****ing off. If something comes up before cash wise and If I feel up for it i'll pop in. Need to get out more rather than lock myself away like I have been doing. I'm honest fella, no bullshit from me and I hate not being able to pay my way.

Both should be sacked, horrible thing to do. I hear what you're saying Marcus and playing devils advocate is often a role I take up but I just don't see it in this situation. If I did get drunk and somehow thought driving was a good idea then I would take any and every punishment on the chin - quite literally if I hit a child and the parents wanted to beat me up I'd pretty much be on their side. The truth is that people like Gibson and Ant will likely be more concerned with themselves and their reputations than the harm they caused or could have caused to others and any apologies will be with that in mind. Scum.
