Think back to the 12th August last year, the start of a brand new season. As with any new season you enter it with expectation and hope. Another season in the top flight of English football, with a new manager who has a reputation to polish. Yes, Silva polish!
Over 20,000 flocked to the ground to see if this team from little old Watford could send the mighty Liverpool packing back to the north-west.
It took only eight minutes for the home fans to become involved as big Stefano Okaka stooped low to head the ball home from a Jose Holebas corner kick. What a start. The Hornets looked comfortable, but Mané and Emre Can combined to create a goal for the former twenty minutes after the opening goal. Would heads drop a little? No, before the Reds had time to revel in their goal, the Hornets were back in front. After some good build up play, a shot was blocked by the Liverpool defence, but Doucouré was on hand to guide the ball home.
So we reached half time with the golden boys leading by two goals to one. Could this performance continue into the next forty five minutes was being considered around the Vic and on the forums that go into overdrive on match days.

Referee Anthony Taylor blew his whistle to get an equally exciting second period underway. Within five minutes though Pereyra limped off the field to be replaced by the new kid on the block Richarlison. Ten minutes into the half Heurelho Gomes felled Salah in the box to allow Firmino a free hit from the spot, and the Brazilian’s successful penalty was followed up two minutes later by a tap-in for Salah. This is all going wrong somehow we thought. From a comfortable looking start we are behind, but there is time when you only need one goal to draw level. As the final whistle became closer, and the ones who always leave early were making their way from the stands, Richarlison’s effort was tipped onto the bar by Mignolet, with Britos in the right place to bundle the ball home for 3-3 in the 93rd minute.

The team that day was: Gomes (GK) (C); Janmaat (Femenía, 18), Kaboul, Britos, Holebas; Chalobah, Doucouré; Amrabat, Cleverley, Pereyra (Richarlison, 49); Okaka (Gray, 63) and we can see that long term injuries have taken their toll.

So a few months later and we head north to see if we can win a point or three after the disappointing result against the Gunners. The travelling fans have taken all of the tickets available to them, and will be hoping to be as entertained as they were in August.

***Further team news will be added as it becomes available.***

Javi Gracia said he is delighted that his defensive options have been increased with the news that Craig Cathcart is now fit enough to be considered for selection. He returned to full training two weeks ago and has now been cleared to play.
“This week nobody new was training with the team,” said Gracia. “We need to wait more time for injured players. The rest are in a process of recovery.”

MOONEY, MOONEY, MOONEY. I call on the powers of Tommy's 0-1 victory at Anfield. COYH.

Can't find the match statistics from that day but it felt like Scousepool had 10,000 shots that day. I'd take a 0-1 but very much doubt it. A good error free performance is desired from the highlands of Jalisco and beyond.

    COYHHHHH!!!!!

Gracia is going to do something "different," hope he means no calamity defending like at Arsenal.

  7. Bit like Luton this one as far as I am concerned. Would love something from it but cannot see it - likely to be a damage imitation job...

  10. John Bishop reckons 11-0. How that man gets paid to be on the telly is beyond me. He has all the charm and appeal of an ingrowing toenail. And he is half as intelligent.

Good to see Gommie on the bench but I'd like to have seen Janmatt and Hughes start. But we will see I guess.

Seems as if we are playing a 5-4-1 formation.
