..for Torres not to play against you on Sunday.

Sounds a bit desperate to me! How can you tell any one that's just handed you £50 million that he can't play against you, in what isn't even your next league match!

Poor scousers petrified he'll turn it on, score a hat-trick and kiss the Chelsea badge with all the delight and glee he did to the LFC one. Almost running scared.

I'd personally like him to play against us. I think this players not playing against former clubs for the first game is a standard request. If I recall correctly Rooney didn't play against everton after he transferred from them to you

And If I remember rightly Man Utd dropped rooney for a game against everton shortly after his extra marital affairs came out

The club have denied it, in the same way Fergie has denied Utd can't compete in the market anymore.

You don't believe the club, we don't believe Fergie.

    So we're quits.

One thing I don't get, and I hope as our wum of reasonableness you can explain, is why fans turned on Rooney for saying what they all think, but can cheer Beckham just for putting a green and custard scarf around his neck. You had a spokesman for your cause on the inside, who could see what's going on. But that would've meant you'd have to boo Fergie for defending the Glazer policy of not paying big wages to secure transfers. Fergie can spend the Ronaldo money whenever he likes. He just has to find quality who'll play for peanuts.

rooneys a nobhead. end of. we turned on him because he questioned the ambitions of a club that were succesful long before the little **** was even conceived, and will be succesful long after hes dead and buried. over the past year, this no value excuse fergie has been using seems to be legit. carroll for 35 mill is loonyness. he's already come out and said we'll need to buy big to replaces scholes and giggs. rooneys a little ****er who should stick to playing and not managing. talked to the glazers personally? **** off you fat scroat, who does he think he is!

The Drunken Tramp is reduced to sticking his bulbous, pickled nose into other clubs transfers because he can't make any of his own. "I'd pay £16M for Adam" he slurs, reinforcing the Glazers resolve not to let the pickled old fart waste their money by over-paying for players. His continued obsession with all things Liverpool has been duly noted. Is this how it will be in the Summer? Every time Liverpool look to buy a player, is the greatest insult to the Knighthood system going to spout that if the Glazers would only give him some money he'd waste it by paying twice the market value for the same player?!?!?

Back on the original WUM topic, I want Torres to play on Sunday, and I want Skrtel to break his leg in 6 places and end his season.

No arguments about your success. But isn't a sea of green and yellow questioning the leadership of the club?

That's Scholes, Giggs, Neville and VDS. Are you keeping Hargreaves? I heard he was maybe off to Canada. That's quite a bit of value Fergie's got to find.

£35m was madness for Carroll but so was £50m for Torres and £30m for Berbatov. How long has he got left compared to Carroll? We got £10m more without Anelka to put to a player who's an investment for the future way beyond what Anelka was worth, so really, £25m for the most promising striker in the PL? Yes please. His stats at 22 are a little better that Torres' at the same age. Value is relative.

Sky are reporting that Torres WILL be playing against us on Sunday. Certainly will add a bit of spice to the game. Seriously hope we do the league double over them, that'll show them!

    Carlo Ancelotti:

"We have to test him tomorrow (Wednesday) and the next day and if he has no problem, he can play on Sunday against Liverpool. But I think he has no problem because he played the last game with Liverpool and played well."

The green and yellow is questioning the ownership of the club, not the leadership. SAF leads the club, the Glazers just manage the money side.

The difference between Becks and Rooney is that Becks wore the scarf when the fans asked him, with no benefit to himself other than to look good in the eyes of the fans. Rooney claimed to want away because the club wasn't ambitious enough, then magically changed his mind when the value of his contract increased. You can see why fans might get the wrong idea about his intentions...

As for the rest of it, replacing Hargreaves is hardly a big deal - he hasn't really played for us for two years so he won't really be missed / noticed. Ditto Neville - all we'll miss when he retires is his ability to get away with ridiculously bad tackles. Scholes and Giggs will be the ones that really need replacing, but Anderson and Nani were bought to replace them ages ago. Nani's now good enough to replace Giggs, and play on the left when Valencia returns, so we only need to replace Scholes with a cretive midfielder to play alongside Fletcher. So we need a good CM and a GK. Given that our profit after wages and interest is £60 million a year, I think we'll survive.

£35 million on Carroll was a much larger gamble than £30 mill on Berbatov and £50 mill on Torres. Carroll's got a grand total of 11 PL goals, and had to see a specialist about his tendon injury just before he signed for you. Tendon injuries can be career threatening, and he'll need to improve a lot to justify his fee. Torres and Berbatov went for ridiculous amounts, but they are proven quality, with no current injuries. Personally, I'd say a fair price for the three would have been:

    Torres: £40 mill
    Berbatov: £20 mill
    Carroll: £15 mill

    PL stats:

    Hernandez: £7 million, 745 minutes, 7 goals

    Carroll: £35 million, 1624 minutes, 11 goals

    Keep clutching at those straws.

You are a nob. Mods please ban this guy...

I'd actually agree with what swarbs is saying about the prices. With it being the last day (well, the last few hours) of the transfer window, I think we can say both torres and carroll were overpriced by 10-15 million, maybe more in Carroll's case. However, Torres had to be replaced before the end of the season, and Newcastle were certain to want to hang on to Carroll (he's a local lad, young, decent, and they don't have time to replace him), so all in all, 35m is something like you'd expect to be paying in today's market. Had he been playing his football somewhere like Bolton or Blackburn, he'd have been about 25m on the last day, I'd expect.

Swarbs - your stats are slightly skewed in my opinion...

your tally for Hernandez is his time with Man U to date + goals.
your tally for Carroll is his time with NUFC + goas...surely a fairer comparison can be made when Carroll has the same game time under his belt for LFC before we start comparing?

and yes, bridge of sighs is scum of the highest order.

Shyeah, straws. You got some minutes for Berbatov at £30m for one good season?

Price tag might've said £35m but we got an extra £10m for not taking an ageing Anelka and saved £15m on Torres' wages. So that makes Carroll £10m on a spreadsheet.
