Just because we have the cash doesn't mean we should pay whatever is asked of us. It is an important part of a transfer to get the best deal for your club as possible. So going in at £17 million would be a little silly wouldn't it? But going in for a lower amount and then raising your bid is more likely to get a lower price.
We are in major danger of becoming a club who no other club will want to deal with, outragously tight with money, offering insulting amounts for other clubs top players yet demanding top dollar for our own flops - (Bender) We wait until the last minute of the transfer window every season and either get no one or some late desperate buy. People who say don't believe the media forget it, It sounds 100% plausible that we would offer this pittance for Cahill as this is how we do business. Scrooge would look like a Sheik compared with our money dealings. I only wish the board were upfront and admitted that basically we are dead broke or else someone has got their hand in the till and they are lapping up all our cash.
This is all obvious stuff mate.. why would you wait till last few days of the transfer window to start that muck..
£10-12 million seems fair to me. He has a year left on his contract and has said he does not want to re-sign as he wants to move to a big club, so we can have him for a free in a season if we don't agree a fee this window or in january. This should knock his value down from the already overinflated £17 million that is only due to him being English in the first place.
What makes u think we have a snowballs chance in hell of getting him once it's on a free? we will be blown away then in terms of wages by the obvious candidates and we will be back shopping in the bargain basement for more little nuggets like Denilson and co.
"People who say don't believe the media forget it, It sounds 100% plausible that we would offer this pittance for Cahill as this is how we do business." Wenger has already stated that the figure of £6million is incorrect. So it's not the media we are believing Although i do expect we put in an offer they got annoyed with. maybe 8-10 million (which is not all that bad).
Wenger is the last person I would believe mate! If as it has been suggested he has nothing to do with buying the players how would he knows this? More embarassment heaped upon our club, after seeing more of this shambles it's pretty obvious why our 2 best players just left, wages aside. The wrongs are never righted at Arsenal under Wenger, despite all his many great coaching and player spotting skills the man is getting more stubborn and embarassing with each disasterous hair pulling, mind mashingly frustrating game. Expect a season full of it from what i see.
Why would we have no chance if he was on a free? Have Chelsea and City been after CB's this transfer window? Would Arsenal not be able to offer him more chances of playing time if he where to come to us? (Since we constantly have injuries even Squillaci played loads last season). People over-exagerate the power Chelsea and City have over players. And remember just because a player is available doesn't mean all the top clubs will go in for him. Also if we are in for him at the moment and get him wanting to come to us we have that advantage as well if it comes to a free. Personally i think it is more likely a deal will be agreed either now or in January (maybe not for him to come to us though )
I like that "Scrooge would look like a Sheik...." Definitely brought a smile to my face. I really wonder why we are dead tight money? Last time I checked we were demanding more for Bendy than we paid for Gervinho.....Crazy crazy world.
"Wenger is the last person I would believe mate!" Why would he feel the need to lie about that though? The media goes "Wenger has bid £6 million for Cahill" Wenger replies "No i haven't" - yep he must be lieing. There is literally no reason for him to lie. I fail to see what you are getting at... Please give me a reason why he may lie about the Cahill money?
Actually I am quite the opposite pal, outragous tag to put on someone in the middle of a football debate. I must admit to being totally frustrated with the club right now as are vast majority of our fans. I have been following Arsenal for 26 years and have spent huge sums of money travelling to games and gone out of my way for the team time and again. Right now it does not feel that the club is prepared to do the same for the fans. Dont try to insult me, u should apologise for that comment! I made several positive suggestion abouts players we could have gotten cheap and who would have improved us, no response. but you keep trying to spin the rose tinted glass lines, are you Arsene's accountant by any chance as you seem to be spinning a lot of company lines there?
Correct Chelsea and Citeh have not been after CBs this window, but as you know all this can change at the drop of a hat.... All it takes is long term injury to one of their CBs.... We were supposedly bidding for Mata, Chelsea for Modric, but soon as they knew they were not going to get Modric, they switched their attention to Mata.... If we allowed Cahill to be a free agent, there is no way we would get him unless we were the only bidders ala Chamakh.... I think Cahill can only get better.
are you Arsene's accountant by any chance as you seem to be spinning a lot of company lines there? ================================================== lol
Your crazy! Cahill would walk straight into out first 11. Vermaelen and Koscielney should not be played together - it's one of the least balanced defensive pairings i've ever seen. They are both good players (particularly Vermaelen) but there's no way they can be a top class partnership. There's not a striker in the country would be be scared to come up against those two. SIZE MATTERS IN ALL CONTACT SPORTS. Its not just a coincidence that centrebacks are generally tall and powerful its because that's the genetic model that best suites the role.
@omogooner - yeah fair enough, there targets could change and ofcourse it would then be harder for us. My point was mainly that we are currently in a strong negotiating position to bring the fee down due to the fact his contract is running down. Think we will try to get a fee arranged ratehr than wait for a free though tbh. @gunnersurprisepeople I clearly touched a nerve there I just see all the doom and gloom and it needs to be chained in every now and then. We are not in the bad position people think we are and Wenger is clearly trying to make signings -we should be glad that the club are trying to pay a fair price for players. The reason i may sound a bit like Wenger is because i'm very business minded and I very much take into account the Business side of our club as well as the sport side. Because if the business side flops the sport side will follow. I do get people being annoyed and this season is probably the first season that i have actualy been irritated with Wenger, but i think actualy the club has done fairly well out of the Nasri/Fabregas transfers and we will be seeing a new face or two comming in.
How do you know how much we are asking or how much we have paid for players ? Do you work for Arsenal's accountants ?
And to be clear - i'm not against big money signings - i just think they have to be the correct players if your gonna spend loads.
